Brad Newsome Sydney Morning Herald This gripping series wastes no time in ratcheting up the tension, and the intriguing characters and back story make it feel like surprises could spring from any quarter. Jul 1, 2020 Full Review Judy Berman TIME Magazine There are plenty of smart twists, and the quintessential Irishness of the six-part show-from the emerald landscapes to the readings of Yeats poems-is a pleasure unto itself. Jan 2, 2019 Full Review Peter Crawley Irish Times There are plenty of reasons to watch Blood, from its fine casting of unfamiliar faces to its supple command of plot and pace. May 23, 2019 Full Review Joel Keller Decider Fine performances, and the whole idea that one of the children in a family becomes a "black sheep" fully through others' actions is an interesting premise. Sam A I enjoyed this show, particularly Season 1. Really had me on the edge of my seat, and the finale was wonderful. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/12/23 Full Review Audience Member By the end of the sixth episode, I understand why the series is called "Blood," because I felt weak and anemic. The good -- reasonably well-acted, and some very nuanced touches in realistic minor details. -- minor spoilers below -- The bad -- I don't see how it's possible to identify or respect ANY character; they're all miserable. And the entire premise of the show -- Cat's horrendous childhood trauma (it isn't) that causes her to suspect her father -- is ridiculously flawed. As are a number of other plot elements that conveniently appear and disappear: the molesting "Uncle Frank," for one. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Callison D A subtle Irish family drama in which a family is reunited after the "accidental" death of the mother who was dying of a neurological disease. The untrusting youngest daughter returns home to blame the Dad, due to her childhood. Cat is fantastic as the feisty black sheep of the family. The Dad is a great character too. Weaker performances by sister Fiona and brother Michael. Season One is fantastic, even if a bit slow moving and understated. Not many dramatic twists. Just a Did he or Didn't he. Watched Season One in one sitting, had to see the finale. Started Season 2 and it was not good without Cat from Season one. Gave up on Season 2 after 2.5 boring episodes. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/27/21 Full Review Audience Member An interesting plot, with interesting characters, played by very capable actors who didn't overplay their hands. The final episode was especially appealing because in an extended flashback it let me know I wasn't nearly as clairvoyant as I thought I was, smug with knowing where this storyline was headed. But it did it without being gimmicky. I loved the fact that all the characters were flawed, that the flaws were understandable on some level. This was a finely crafted series, with many fine And subtle touches along the way. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Strong Strong writing. Great performances. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I have just finished watching Series 1 of "Blood" and it is drama at it's absolute finest. Wonderful script, amazing and compelling performances from all the lead actors, but the standout performance for me was Cillian O'Gairbhi in the role of Barry. Casting agents should be lining up to snare him. Quite stunning. [ and, no, I don't know him or have any connection to him. Just in awe of his performance!! ] Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
