Extended Family’s Jon Cryer Mulls Two and a Half Men Reunion With Charlie Sheen: ‘I Don’t Close Anything Off’
Jon Cryer is not ruling out the possibility of re-teaming with his former TV brother.
While promoting his new NBC sitcom Extended Family (premiering Saturday, Dec. 23; watch trailer), the two-time Emmy winner reacted to Charlie Sheen‘s recent reunion with Two and a Half Men creator Chuck Lorre (and Angus T. Jones!) on Bookie, and weighed in on the possibility of joining Sheen on a future episode of the Max comedy.
“I have loved working with Chuck,” Cryer tells TVLine. “[After Two and a Half Men] I was on Kominsky Method, and his new show [Bookie] really does sound like fun. That being said, I haven’t spoken with Charlie in seven-some plus years, so I have no idea where he’s at.”
Even still, Cryer is open to putting the past behind them: “I don’t close anything off. I loved working with those people when it was great — it was really great, you know? — and I’m sad that it got super-duper weird. But everybody, I think, comes from a place of forgiveness, hopefully. As I said, when the times were good, they were really, really good.”
Sheen and Cryer played siblings Charlie and Alan Harper for eight seasons on CBS’ Men. Sheen earned three Emmy nominations for his role before an infamous public meltdown led to his contract being terminated in 2011. The series would continue for an additional four seasons with new co-lead Ashton Kutcher, and culminate in a fever dream of a series finale that saw Lorre snuff Charlie Harper via airborne piano.
What followed was one of Lorre’s trademark vanity cards, revealing that Sheen turned down an offer to appear in the finale and instead pitched Lorre a sequel series titled The Harpers. (Suffice it to say, it was a no-go.) Eight years later, Sheen and Lorre buried the hatchet, and Sheen was cast in a recurring role on Bookie, on which he plays a heightened version of himself.
“It was really healing,” Lorre recently told TVLine of reconciling with Sheen. “It really felt good. It felt like we were closing the book on some horrible times.”
Asked what the chances were of enlisting Cryer to appear alongside Sheen in a hypothetical Season 2, Lorre answered, “From your mouth to God’s ears! I would love that.”
Meanwhile, Sheen in a recent interview with our sister site Deadline had this to say about Cryer: “[On Two and a Half Men] I had the benefit of… the greatest co-star a guy could ever ask for. I say co-star, but I mean teammate. Playing with Jon, playing off of the things he was doing, it was magical.”
Extended Family premieres on a special night, Saturday, Dec. 23 at 8/7c on NBC. Subsequent episodes will air on its regular night, Tuesdays, beginning Jan. 2 at 8:30 pm. In the meantime, hit the comments and tell us if you would like to see Cryer and Sheen together again.

YES! I’m watching Two and a Half Men on Paramount right now! I love this show and watch the reruns all the time. I missed all the crap about what happened with Charlie but don’t care. They are both hilarious together. Just don’t put any more new shows on streaming – PLEASE.
Looking forward to cryers new show! It would be great to see sheen on a show that shoots in front of a live audience again!

Life is too short to feud. Loved them together and would definitely watch another show with them.
All for a Two & Half Men reboot, no disrespect to Ashton K. but that arc lost my viewership after a very few episodes
Would love to see them together again. Maybe Charlie can come back as a ghost. It seems ghost shows are very popular now. Rose could still want to marry Charlie even as a ghost. 🤔 Berta would be really spooked by a ghost. Imagine the fun Charlie could have as a ghost. That would be FUNNY !!
Yes, please I would love to see the two working on a show again. Miss not seeing the old shows on Sat. evenings (always something to look forward to now there is nothing).
