Descripción del producto

Eric Clapton's 1997 Live in Hyde Park" home video documented a triumphant concert of the previous summer that followed his massive "Tears in Heaven" hit a few years earlier. This is classic rockin' and guitar-wailin' blues-is-king Clapton, from new versions of his Derek and the Dominos' "Layla" and "Have You.

"This Show was Knocked Out of the Park"
London...Hyde Park...Saturday June 29th, 1996...(14) song Set List...Including some of the Best Renditions of some songs I'd ever seen him Perform....From Start to Finish, He had a relaxed, comfortable stage presence even without all the same people that would usually accompany him, except for Steve Gadd on Drums and his 2 singers, Katie and Tessa .... Didn't matter...the other Players, from the horns to the Piano, all did their part...Eric..and the Band knocked this Show "Out of the Park" that day.....It began with One Look at the Crowd in a packed Hyde Park and the setting was "Electric"...and as Eric himself would tell the crowd in between songs toward the end of this performance, It had been 30 years since he'd last played this Venue...and that it felt just as good that day as it had been 30 years ago... But I doubt very much if that Performance, most likely with Cream, could have been close to the the Show this crowd had witnessed...Because by the time you'd heard the first (3) songs that were played: Layla (Acoustic), Badge and Hoochie Coochie Man (on the same type guitar that Freddie King played it on countless times)...and then Finally a version of "I Shot the Sheriff", easily one if not the Best I'd heard with a 4 minute blistering solo...One Thing was Perfectly Clear...After 4 songs Eric was as relaxed, it was apparent it was Fun...and he was Definitely "ON' this entire performance...It was a Knock Out...One Live DVD you don't want to Miss....

Summer, 1996 London's Hyde Park
My first trip to the UK came four months later and had I known about this concert, would have changed my itinerary....I can only imagine the magic, electricicity and music that filled the still summer air amongst the crowd of adoring fans......here is truly one of the most incredible outdoor performances EVER, given by the one (if not the greatest) rock/blues guitarists living today-Eric Clapton. Thousands gathered in the midst of one of London's most serene and historic city commons on an evening filled with stars.......Mr Clapton, an ensemble of gifted and diverse musicians, a familiar list of hits, a few Claptonesque renditions of American Southern blues staples delivered in PERFECT almost recording-studio sound and perfection makes this an audio/visual orgasm for the senses!
In an age in which concerts are given to raucous crowds, blaring amplifiers, exploding techno special effects, unpredictable antics of the performers and lyrics too profane to comprehend Mr Clapton transcends the typical; his vocals are soft, bluesy, heartfelt; the words crisp and clear as the stories unfold. As of this recording his voice still reaches pitches and vibrato the years have since taken from him....thank God, the magic that flows from his soul through his fingertips has, and forever will be, Slow Hand's gift to music. His searing riffs and the seemingly uncanny manner his fingers dance and glide down the frets of his Strat/Gibson or whatever stringed guitar he carries like his lover commands the adulation and attention of new generations of musicians and fans of all ages.........
Also praiseworthy is the contributions of Jerry Portnoy, an incredible blues harmonica player whose command of the simple "mouth organ" places him at the top of his game; Steve Gadd, anything but a simple percussionist-his driving, forceful but never overpowering beat adds to the groups excellent delivery; Andy Low, guitarist--subtle rhythyms and dual leads compliment Mr Clapton on several solo performances; Tim Sanders & The Kick Horns--what a crisp accent to all the music; never overpowering and surprisingly compliments even the blues! All in all a gathering of friends on a perfect mid-summer's eve, a treat for all the senses......why not treat yourself to a foot-tapping, air guitar playing, visual and stunning auditory exposition of one of the world's greatest living performers from across the pond? He is the "Hootchie Coochie Man" for all time..................

Received a Region 2 (EU) disc, thought I was ordering a US-compatible disc. When I ordered, there was no region warning under the product description at the top of the page (there still isn't), and in the Product Details near the bottom there was this: " Media Format : Multiple Formats, Color, NTSC ". The seller, OxforshireEngland is trying to blame me, saying in an email "The item you ordered is Region 2/B therefore it can only be played on a European or multi region player. This information can be seen in our comments section and on the product details of the listing page which is created by Amazon.", when anyone can go to the page right now and see no mention of Region 2/B, the word "Region" does not even appear on the page. OxforshireEngland has agreed to let me return it, but at my expense for the international postage and I'll have to pay a 20% restocking fee to pay for their mistake. I'll be staying away from this seller from now on.

This concert is one of the first complete performances of Eric released in DVD. With amazing and crisp sound and picture, it represents a true document on contemporary music for future generations. Eric performs his classic tunes like Badge and Acoustic Layla plus great blues songs like Five Long Years and Tore Down. Here we see a Slowhand in top notch shape, soloing greatly, and singing with a lotta feeling, like a true blues man. This concert was taped in Hyde Park in 1996, in the midst of a heavy rain, which did not manage to scare away the thousands of souls touched by Eric's music. There are virtually no behind the scenes or interviews footage, which would've been great, but one addition to the DVD is the the classic blues It Hurts me Too, with great slide guitar by the amster. Don't let it pass, I can honestly say this is the best E.C. DVD out yet.

An excellent performance of Eric during this time period. See what's on the set list to make sure you want to hear and see these particular songs being played. Would have liked more songs from the 70's, but you can't have it all. Eric is clearly excited about playing this show which is a big reason to buy this Live in Hyde Park DVD. He plays a Stratocaster (as always) but then mixes it up with a Gibson Custom Shop model of his old ES 335 he used back in the Cream days. A rare sight to see.

This DVD had the feel of really being there - sound reproduction excellent- far better than I expected. Eric Clapton at his live best - a very worthwhile buy to add to my collection as a relatively 'new' fan of his work
