The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Soho
The go-to district for a good time in London, Soho hosts a wealth of world-class theatres and a compelling lineup of cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars, and clubs. At Soho's core is London's original Red Light District and the epicenter of the LGBT scene – and thus the city's hottest nightlife. For shopping enthusiasts, Soho is not only the home of London's greatest concentration of boutique shops, but also the most strategic place to set off on a tour of the world's most celebrated department stores. In the southern part of the neighbourhood lies Chinatown, with its multitude of delicious and affordable restaurants. Closer to the Thames, Chinatown's narrow and teeming lantern-lit lanes spill onto the expansive hub of glitzy Leicester Square.

    Entertaining
It felt like s mix between "The magic toy store", " Charlie and the chocolate factory" and a toy store from Harry Potter. Lots of very nice people showing very fun toys to the kids and being friendly with them. They did not even push us to buy stuff.

Loud and over crowded at times
The selection was great. Well organized and inviting. Lots for the kids to do and people helping, but it was hard to find a check out cashier to pay for things. Unique items. Liked the Lego pieces of Queen Elizabeth and King Charles.

    In need of refurbishment
Very disappointing visit to this iconic toy store. I was very surprised at how tired the store is, and poor displays, and quite limited stock for major brands. Floors appear worn out, and it feels generally grubby. The gaming area was very poor, very limited products working, gaming desk empty apart from the chairs. Luckily my 6yr old Son can see past this, but we couldn't and it made the experience unenjoyable. This store clearly requires refurbishment and more stock added along with more active stock for the children to engage with. What a shame, not how I remember it as a kid.

Not to Be Missed for Toy Lovers
This is a must do for toy lovers. Floors of toys with delightful staff to show you the latest novelties. Old fashioned, a bit long in the tooth but not to be missed. The wonderful lady in the Steiff section has been at Hamley's forever and she was a walking encyclopedia of information about Steiff and Hamley's. Thank you so much.

    Amazing Staff.
On our list of things to do in London being massive kids ourselves, firstly, I'm so glad this place is open late, having arrived at about 7:30 pm on Saturday. Toys are laid out in sections across floors which helps, as there are plenty of floors, and some things we just weren't interested in. Staff were demoing at different points in the store, and 95% of staff wonderful and friendly - my partner did ask about a model kit to which he got a "don't know" and no help. At build-a-bear, there was a women hanging clothes at a register, clearly seeing there was a line, whilst she may not be register trained, only one till open as the others were cashed up etc (all fine, I understand this) an acknowledgement to us would have been appreciated. Having said that, we ended up purchasing from the LOTR collection, and the gent that served us there was lovely to chat to, excellent customer skills and we had a lovely conversation with him. Other members of staff at other points in the store always said hello to us, and asked if we were after something specific, friendly but not intrusive, excellent!

    Incredible santas grotto experience!
I booked my son's in at the grotto, we've been to Lapland uk before but aside from that this is the best grotto we have experienced! The staff made it so very magical, the whole process of going in and making a toy then meeting Santa through a special door was incredible! My boys were blown away and the gift bag for each of them was the icing on the cake! See you next year!

Good for choice - but buy elsewhere
Came here to stock up for presents for our children. It has a good feel about it with many different toys over the various floors. My issue is the hard sell by the staff on the different levels. The fact toys are double the price of the same toys in different shops. As it's Christmas I had hoped for more of a festive feel about the place.

    Excellent service
Ordered a wooden London Bus toy for my young grandauger on Tuesday after seeing it on a programme about the store. It arrived within two days & is very well made sturdy. Only down side was shortly after placing order & getting order confirmation I had another email to say I hadn’t completed order. On checking the senders e mail address it was obviously not from Hamleys. We have to be so careful now days. I would definitely use their mail order again

    A magical wonderland!
I took my niece toy shopping here and I honestly think I had more fun! First of all, the store is HUGE. This cannot be emphasised enough. There's a fantastic amount to explore, toys being played with everywhere, and every level has interactive bits to play with the merchandise. It honestly feels like being in a whimsical children's film. I'd recommend putting aside a good amount of time to go here rather than treating it as a normal pop in, browse and buy shopping experience. It's more like a playground unto itself.

    Shop until you drop
Even though we were all adults we had a great afternoon's shopping . Incredible Christmas Decorations. So many things to look at and buy ! The staff are very friendly and took time to demonstrate many amazing things you didn't know you needed. All in all a quite magical trip.

In all honesty , our kids enjoyed the store “experience” and demonstrations. But things went wrong once we got home. Unfortunately the “Thunder glow” drones that had been flying effortlessly around the store with promises of being easily controlled by my kids and being completely safe were not up to the sales pitch. They are no easier to control than other poor quality drones and the blades keep wizzing off at speeds which make safety glasses a must! Kids are frustrated and disappointed and I feel conned. It’s one thing to sell overpriced tat, it’s another to use highly skilled salesmen to hard sell to kids. Perhaps I’m just naive, but I trusted the Hamley’s brand, never again.

An absolute rip off. Disgusting how they con youngsters. My autistic daughter came back with a key ring that cost... Wait for it £30. £5 for a key ring and £5 a letter to personalise it. That is 6 weeks of saving her pocket money to be utterly ripped of by sales staff on a mission to rip off kids. Ok it was her money to spend on what she wants to, but really, what a way to do business. I would have rather she picked something up from BandM (this is the quality of most of the stuff they demonstrated in the shop) and made a donation to charity. Will never take them there again. Disgusting.

Such a fun day out with the children and an incredible selection of toys! We even bought a few to take back as gifts to the US. The kids loved and was a highlight of their London trip!

Really fun environment and full of cool stuff. Went there to get a Paddington bear but when I arrived I was shocked by the pop figures floor and gamin lounge with ancient arcades

My 10 year old boy bought a Zorbi's magic flying with his pocket money after a much anticipated trip to Hamleys. Demonstration was misleading , the toy was not worth the £25 tag! I am so disappointed with Hamleys. Definitely not going there again....

Great fun! We arrived before 12 for it opening on Sunday morning, my daughter got to ring the bell to open the store! She was absolutely made up. The staff are great fun and make it really enjoyable for big and small kids. Just note some generic toys like lego/barbie are cheaper elsewhere! But it was great fun and some nice toys and a hamley's bear were purchased.

I took my son to London specially from Oxford to spend his saved pocket money and birthday money on a visit here.
It’s definitely lost its magic from when I was a kid - looks tired and shabby and the staff are lovely but often trying too hard to do the hard sell. Also same demos on each floor and less variety. Kids in the basement were Hogging certain arcades so no one else could get a try. Just felt quite chaotic and a bit lacklustre.
The main issue we had is that we bought the flying saucer toy. When reaching home we found out it’s poorly made and the demo was misleading- the item is held by a string which was not made clear in the demo. It’s cheaply made with sticky material and a string - can actually replicate this at home. The lights on it were not working. My son was really disappointed and I contacted customer services who offered a refund at the costs of having to print a label, go to the post office and get a free return delivery label. This was time consuming and took an hour of my time. There was no acknowledgment that my son was disappointed in the broken toy that he had saved up and made a special trip for , no goodwil gesture, just a cold and complicated return service. Really disappointed with hamleys on this occasion. Next time will go to selfridges or Harrods toy department.

Great toy store for everyone. We liked the entertainment from the employees. Prices are noticeably the same than in average toy stores - high. Don't hesitate to travel the five floors of the building, there is so much to see !

5 floors of fun for everyone! We travelled as a group of friends but stopped here when shopping. It was a fun experience, even with no children with us! They have some lovely stuff. There are lots of staff in the shop providing entertainment.

Definitely worth stopping off here for the experience if you're in the area.

After seeing it on documentaries it was nice to step inside the famous Hamleys!
We could spot it blocks away with the dancers out front drumming up business ahead of the Easter weekend. Dancing pirates and rabbits entertained passersby.
My niece was mesmerized from the moment she stepped inside.
5 floors and a basement of toys galore - from basic stuffed animals to voice-controlled robot transformers. There's something for the young at heart of all ages!
My husband loved the Hornby miniature train layout and my brother enjoyed the lego department. There are fun demonstrations of new toys and a cool candy shop.
Personally drooling over the tubes filled with every imaginable flavour of Jelly Belly beans! It's a lovely place to walk through and reminisce about childhood or to keep abreast of what the young ones are into these days.
