Obituary

Ellie Brown, the beloved seamstress, loving nanny, and loyal friend, has left us with a heavy heart. Born on May 31, 1942, in the bustling streets of New York, New York, Ellie brought joy and laughter to all who knew her. On December 26, 2023, she bid farewell to this world, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be cherished.

With a mischievous twinkle in her eye and a quick wit, Ellie was known to be quite the comedian. Her jokes could light up a room and bring smiles to even the grumpiest faces. She had a knack for finding humor in the simplest of things, reminding us all not to take life too seriously. She was a selfless and forgiving soul, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a listening ear. Her nurturing nature made her an exceptional nanny. One of Ellie’s great passions was her love for dachshunds. She was an aficionado of these adorable little dogs, showering them with affection and spoiling them rotten. Despite life’s challenges, Ellie remained resilient and strong-willed. Many described her as a spitfire, never backing down from a fight and always standing up for what she believed in.

Ellie is preceded in death by her parents James and Ruth (Kraft) McGinley, sisters Barbara McGinley Torres and Marie Moore, as well as her niece Lori Jean Torres.

She leaves behind a loving family and a multitude of friends who will forever cherish her memory. Surviving family members include nieces Carolchristine Stapleton and Carrie Grainger, nephews Michael Torres, Christopher Torres, Rudy Anderson, Kevin Moore, Shane Anderson, and Robert Truesdell, brother James McGinley, sister-in-law Sherry Anderson, and great-nieces Adam Joan Metzger, Ashlynn Truesdell, and Sierra Grace Truesdell. Additionally, she is survived by a host of extended family and friends who will deeply miss her presence.

Per Ellie’s wishes, there will be no service to mourn her passing. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of the Highway, a cause close to Ellie’s heart, at 943 Ballpark Road, Thomasville, NC 27360.
