The verdict is in: CBS has cancelled the military legal drama The Code after just one season.
Star Dana Delany shared the news via Twitter on Tuesday, writing, “Thank you to all you wonderful people who watched @TheCodeCBS. Last night was our finale and sadly, no more. I’ll never make General. But I loved this cast of stellar actors & know we’ll meet again. Semper Fidelis.”
“While I’m disappointed that I don’t get to continue this particular adventure with these stellar humans, I feel very grateful for, and proud of, the show we made,” co-star Luke Mitchell added. “Thank you so much to everyone who watched!!”
The Code explored the toughest legal challenges facing the U.S. Marine Corps. At the center of the show were Marines who work together as prosecutors, defense lawyers and investigators to serve their country with integrity while often putting aside their personal ideals for the sake of justice.
In addition to Delany and Mitchell, the stacked ensemble included Anna Wood (Falling Water), Phillipa Soo (Broadway’s Hamilton), Raffi Barsoumian (The Vampire Diaries) and Ato Essandoh (Chicago Med).
The Code premiered in April to 8.1 million total viewers and a 0.7 demo rating, in a special post-NCIS outing, but its ratings declined in its regular Monday time slot. Last night’s series finale hit and held onto series lows with 2.9 million total viewers and a 0.3 demo rating.
TVLine’s Renewal Scorecard has been updated with the cancellation.

Will you miss The Code? Hit the comments with your thoughts!
It was an awful show…nothing shocking about this cancellation
They didn’t even give it a chance.
Such a poor decision. It should have continued as a summer series. Shows are cancelled so quickly these days. Makes it more and more difficult to invest in programs
Unfortunately that’s how the system works.
No, that is how CBS operates. One and Done.
I find it interesting that they waited until after the last episode to announce it was cancelled. After we had invested time watching all episodes.
Right the heck with the viewers. You have to give them a chance and you can’t do it in just a season. It wasn’t even a full season. Why do you keep the stupid reality shows. Guess it’s like they say “Sex Sells.”
What a shame. I enjoyed the Code
Liked it :(
They are taking off the code but keeping on the idiotic love island. How’s low can CBS go
How low? Very low because they’re still running Big Brother and all the other baloney “reality” shows.
Playing to the lowest common denominator. Quality shows like The Code get cancelled while the mindless and salacious continue.
Absolutely true.
Talent costs money, and since nobody on those reality shows has any talent at anything, they last. So, The Code joins Code Black, The Kids Are Alright and a plethora of other more worthy shows, while reality shows–which aim at people with the intelligence of Donald Trump–proliferate. Not that I’m bitter or anything. :-D
Intelligence of Donald Trump? The man didn’t get rich by being stupid.
No, he got rich by inserting his daddy’s money!! LOL
Donald Trump has nothing to do with this topic but he did have to pay his dad back plus interest. I like THE CODE. I like all military shows. It’s nice to see one that is not investigating someone’s murder.
How low? Very low because they’re still running Big Brother and all the other baloney “reality” shows.
I’m disappointed to see this show cancelled. The summer line up has been either repeats or that crazy love island or whatever it’s called that’s on nightly.
The characters and story line on The Code were well written and acted. Thank goodness there are other options like Netflix,Amazon etc.
That is true. We need military subject on TV . We need to see how the military is run. How many people go to training to defend our country ( your USA and mine Canada ). With The Code I did discover new actors and actresses.
Just started getting into this legal drama. I find that CBS doesn’t give some shows
time to ‘catch on’. Sorry to see it go.
TV has too many reality programming theses days… getting quite tired of it.
Maybe if they spent more time in the courtroom and less time in the bedroom?
Heaven forbid CBS should give up all the half naked B.S. reality shows for something less prurient. Don’t be ridiculous.
No I didn’t like it. I watched it 3 times and couldn’t get into it. I watch ncis and all the rest but couldn’t get into this one
That sucks I don’t know why they cancel all the good shows that they put on that are enjoyable to watch and you get invested in and put on these shows that actually suck and you don’t watch. They should give the public the choice on what shows they should cancel
They do, it’s called ratings.
Sometimes it is and usually about money, ratings. The public never gets to give an opinion just how many watch it. Money talks but not for us, the public.
Hate to see The Code cancelled.
Why does CBS cancel all theirs shows after one season it is know wonder CBS is losing viewers because they don’t keep shows on long enough foe people to invest in also i am tired of shows being decided bydemo rating and you had 2.02 million viewers maybe you should put it on another night hopefully another station will pick it up
There are too many reality shows and talk show this is why people aren’t investing in tv anymore sorry to see it go
Being a vet. I enjoyed the show. Guess there was not enough action.
You mean there wasn’t enough bedroom action which seems to be the specialty of CBS.
Um, what?
Well that sucks. I liked THe Code!!
Thought the show content was much different than most. Sorry to see it go. I liked the diversity in the cast.
Loved the show. Very disappointed. But to be expected as they never give viewers time to invest in a show.
That’s terrible, i though that is was a good show, sorry to see it being canceled, but that’s the way it goes ones that are worth watching get canceled and the ones that are not worth wasting your time and electricity on get renewed
I watched The Code from the first episode to the last. I loved the show. Am really disappointed that they have cancelled it. Was one of my favorite shows.
It was OK but not better than that. One of those shows that if someone asks you about it a few years down the road you wont even remember it.
Sorry to see the Code cancelled so soon. In the first season, they were introducing us to so many characters & potential later avenues to develop. Cancelling after one season – it just cuts it off too soon. The show had potential & the actors did a good job. Rather than cancelling – it could have gone to a summer filler. As it stands, I hope it is picked up by another network. Hope it’s not replaced by another ‘reality or bachelor like show’. Just too many of them.
I couldn’t watch last night, since CBS dropped Direct TV. Am sad to see The Code leave the lineup. Great group of actors!
No I missed other shows the code I do not care
I loved the code and i thought the finale was great iwill miss it
As usual CBS canceled another good show. And keeps renewing junk like Big Brother.
Yes I will miss the Code. I like the show. You have to give it at least 2-3 seasons before you do that.
I enjoyed the Code, a hell of a lot better than a lot of the crap on tv these days. It had good stories & characters you cared about so why it didn’t get good viewing figures is a mystery tome.
