The 12 tracks in this collection offer an intimate and striking portrait of BlackHawk, the mainstream country trio comprised of Henry Paul, Van Stephenson, and Dave Robbins. This set collects the band's hits from their inception and first single in 1993 through the period when Van Stephenson had to leave the band in 2000 because of a cancer that killed him. While Blackhawk never issued an album that was solid from start to finish, they are one of the most consistent singles acts to emerge from mainstream country in 1990s. With their infectious three-part harmonies, glorious acoustic guitar and piano-dominated arrangements, and endearing heartfelt delivery, they are indeed closer to traditional country music in spirit if not in sound than some of their more "authentic" peers. Collected here are the smashes "Postmarked Birmingham," "Every Once in a While," "I'm Not Strong Enough to Say No," "Hole in My Heart," "Goodbye Says It All," and "Let "Em Whirl," with a mess of other tunes, all of which charted in the Billboard Top 50. For the price, this collection cannot be beat.

The Chicks in 10 Songs

One of the most polarizing bands around, the Dixie Chicks—as of June 2020, simply The Chicks—have never toed the line so many women in country music were once expected to.

The Pioneers of Rock’n’Roll

Rock’n’roll isn’t dead. But you can count the pioneers of the genre who are still alive on two fingers: Jerry Lee Lewis and Wanda Jackson. They’re 84 and 82. Lewis was a wild rocker signed with Sun Records who made history by igniting his instrument and transforming church music, country and boogie-woogie into wicked rock'n'roll. Jackson was a country singer who had a brilliant career alongside Elvis. Going from Little Richard to Chuck Berry, not forgetting Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Bo Diddley, Bill Haley, Elvis Presley, Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, Buddy Holly and Hank Williams, Qobuz pays tribute to the precursors of rock.

10 Legends of the Blues

June 21 marked 20 years since the death of a king of the blues: John Lee Hooker. But the blues didn't follow this giant into the grave. This genre, which has been being recorded for over a century, is still nourishing pop music of all kinds and producing great records (like the latest release from The Black Keys). It's time to take a look back at the classics with ten historic blues musicians.
