Everything you need to know about the Emirates Bassinet Seat

Here you will find everything you need to know about the Emirates bassinet policy, including the bassinet size and age/weight restrictions, how to request a bassinet seat on Emirates and more. For more information on what Emirates provides for children see here.

I used to work for Emirates as a flight attendant, so have not only used these as crew with other parents but with my own babies too!

Here are all the details you need about flying with a baby on Emirates and the bassinet seat. Additionally, don’t forget to pack carry-on essentials such as safety items, entertainment, blankets, pillows, diapers, and feeding supplies.

Where are the Emirates bassinet seats?

These are located at the bulkhead positions – meaning the partition between a cabin, galley or toilet section of an aircraft.

A bulkhead seat offers slightly more legroom, so is a desirable seat. The photo below shows the 4 small holes on the bulkhead wall, where two bassinets can fit.

However, on some seats the armrest is solid and immovable (this is where the tray table is stowed) which can be a bit uncomfortable if your baby is lying on you.

All baggage at a bulkhead position MUST be stowed away for taxi, take-off and landing.

What is the Emirates bassinet size?

The baby bassinets in First class are 63.5 cm long and 28 cm wide (25 in x 11 in), while they are 74.93 long x 33.03 cm wide x 16.51 cm deep (29.5 in x 13 in x 5 in) in Business Class and Economy Class.

Please note that bassinets are limited in number and subject to availability. Remember that you can’t request a bassinet if you have booked a normal seat on child’s fare rates.

The Emirates bassinet weight limit is 11kg kilograms (24.2lb pounds). To compare with other airlines bassinet measurements, see here.

Note the Emirates website does state, “Whilst our bassinets are designed for babies up to two years old, we won’t be able to provide one if your baby doesn’t fit safely. Please note bassinets are limited in number and subject to availability.”

Worried about Sleep?

The CoziGo (affiliate link) retails at US $83.99 and easily fits over airplane bassinets, including the Emirates bassinet and is allowed. It blocks light, movement and stimulation helping baby to sleep without constant distraction.

It can also be used on strollers too as it protects from UV rays. We used it everytime we flew with a baby and regularly recommend it to friends flying long haul with an infant.

It can be shipped worldwide and shipping is FREE to Australia, USA, UK, Canada etc from their site

Can I use a car seat and a bassinet?

No, you will not be able to use a car seat and a bassinet. The bassinet is only an option for lap babies and not babies that have their own seat.

How do I request an Emirates bassinet?

After you make a booking and have your booking reference details, you have a couple of options:

  • You can request a baby bassinet in the Passenger Details section on the Emirates website or
  • By calling your local Emirates office.

I’m on a codeshare flight, who should I request the bassinet with?

This should always be done through the airline operated the flight. e.g the actual airline you will physically be flying with.

Is there a charge for requesting the bassinet seat?

No. Bassinet seats on Emirates may be requested, free of charge, by adults travelling with infants.

Emirates allow all customers travelling with infants in the same booking to select seats free of charge which includes not only the bassinet and adjacent seats on a bulkhead but on all regular seats too. (Note this doesn’t include Preferred and Twin seats.)

Is the Emirates bassinet in Economy class the same as the bassinet in business class?

Yes, although depending on aircraft type them may be installed slightly differently in business class. e.g on newer B777, you need to remove th magazine rack to install the bassinet.

Crew will do this for you. Emirates have bassinets on their A380 and B777 fleet.

Can I request a bassinet seat if I want to use a car seat too?

No, you won’t be able to do this as the bassinet is only an option for lap babies and not babies that have their own seat.

Is there anything else I need to know about the bassinet seat on Emirates?

As with all airlines, you will be unable to stow any luggage in front of your seat during taxi, takeoff, and landing. A good idea is to have a bum bag/fanny pack attached to you if you need to quickly gain access to anything during this time.

Once the seat belt sign is switched off, you will be able to bring your bag down from the hatrack/baggage bin and use the items until top of descent. Don’t forget to pack carry-on essentials such as safety items, entertainment, blankets, pillows, diapers, and feeding supplies.
