Logo History
Instagram caused a bit of a stir when, in 2016, changed its logo to the new vibrant gradient one. The old logo, a stylized retro version of the iconic Polaroid camera, was replaced with the new one in a decision to rebrand the entire app.
Not very many know this, but before it became a hit, Instagram was initially called Burbn. The reason? Kevin Systrom, Instagram’s founder was apparently a fan of Kentucky whiskeys.
The Instagram logo designer who’s responsible for the latest branding is actually multiple designers: Joy-Vincent Niemantsverdriet, Eric Goud and Robert Padbury under the guidance of Ian Spalter, head of design at Instagram. The Instagram color palette of the logo is made of royal blue, blue, purple, dark pink, purple-red, red, dark orange, orange, yellow and light yellow.
As of September 24, 2018 Kevin Systrom is no longer the CEO of Instagram.
