Who ex-Leeds United boss Sam Allardyce wants to see win the Championship play-offs

The Championship play-off semi-finals begin this weekend. But who out of Leeds United, Southampton, West Bromwich Albion and Norwich City will prevail and clinch promotion to the Premier League?

History is not on the Whites' side. They have never won promotion via the play-offs in five previous appearances.

But as the old saying goes, records are there to be broken and the Whites will look to take a giant step towards Wembley when they face the Canaries in the first leg of their semi-final on Sunday at Carrow Road, kick-off noon. United will be confident of their chances of progressing to the final, having twice beaten Norwich in the regular league season.

Sam Allardyce hopes United win the play-offs. He took over as Whites boss for the final four matches of last term following Javi Garcia's departure but was unable to save the club from the drop.

Speaking on the latest episode of ‘No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast‘, Allardyce said: “Obviously I want Leeds because I was there last season and I found it, in only a short time, a great club. Hopefully they get back there and get some stability in terms of trying to stay there this time.

“It’s been a good season for them but if they don’t quite make it, like with everything else, what happens financially? They have to cut financially again then and it becomes more difficult again then.”

The winner of Norwich versus Leeds will face Southampton or West Bromwich Albion in the final at Wembley on Sunday, May 26.
