    ★★★½

    More sex, lies and videotape.

Excellent soft-focus suburban grease from Gregory Dark/Hippolyte. Probably one of the better Shannon Whirry performances I’ve seen recently as she maneuvers and exploits the male inadequacy, anxiety and horniness that seems to power the streetlights in her cul-de-sac. Mikey from The Sopranos is a horny artist in this one.

This one is quite a bit different from the first movie. For one thing the interesting cast is missing and we basically just have Whirry. That's fine and all, I have no issue with the cast here, it's just odd that the first one had so many names in it and this one doesn't at all.

It's funny how much of a downer this movie was. Like it's sad and depressing which is opposite of what I expect when I…

The character of Joanna Cole returns along with Shannon Whirry but in the 90s DTV way where it basically don't matter if you saw the first movie or not. I guess Maxwell Caulfield went to jail after the first one 🤷 and she married some dude named Phillip in the meantime but he sucked so she leaves him over a narration framing device just like the first movie. Joanna moves into a new neighborhood but ends up next door to…

Animal Instincts II. [Video]. You'd think that this was a sequel in-number-only but Animal Instincts II is actually a creative rethinking of the first chapter, in which voyeurism was seen as liberation from the sheckles of the middle class and the violent hypocricies of law enforcement - in Animal Instincts II the peeping tom gets possessive and violent, whereby Dame Whirry must draw the line and suburbian peace must be prevailed; it's hardly the most joyous one of these, but sort of quietly impressing in how it actually comes with a psychological argument.

The guy who shot this movie would later go on to shoot motion pictures on IMAX and win an Oscar for photographing INCEPTION. You gotta start your career somewhere.

  • Paul Fleming

Teenage Paul thought this was the sexiest movie ever made.

    ★★★½

Shannon Whirry is back for Animal Instincts 2 playing "the woman who likes to be watched".

Animal Instincts II is a delightful voyeurism exercise, masterly directed by Gregory Hippolyte a.k.a Gregory Dark.

The first movie has a better cast, but if you liked the original Animal Instincts you'll probably enjoy this sequel too.

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Joanne Fleming (Shannon Whirry) likes to be watched.

Her neighbor Steve (Woody Brown) likes to watch and has put cameras in every room of her apartment.

But when she falls for Eric (Al Sapienza) instead of him, well, things may not go so well.

You have to love a movie that’s made for people who want to watch that looks at the bad side of voyeurism. Kind of like when Gregory Dark made adult films, he made things that were…

Rare sequel that surpasses the original.

so clearly animal instincts is the reflexive meta series of the gregory dark erotic thriller-verse. again all the eroticism is organized around the voyeuristic act of watching wealthy women corrupt themselves in exhibitionist thrall thru cleverly hidden security cameras. needless to say, it's not consensual kink play but the sexual crimes of a pathological peeper.

if the first was an ultimately affirmative celebration of all the extravagances of the voyeuristic gaze this is the opposite, a tonally dark cautionary tale maligning the compulsion of wanting to see.
