From the School
At the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), we create bold futures by putting students first and cultivating an environment focused on their success. UTSA is the largest university in San Antonio and the city’s only Tier One institution. It offers more than 180 undergraduate and graduate degree programs—including several fully online—with signature areas in health, energy, security, sustainability, and human and social development. UTSA also offers programs to help advance professional careers through certificate programs and continuing education opportunities.
The Student Experience
We foster a culture where Roadrunners can experience a life-changing education that helps them reach their bold future. Our students come from diverse backgrounds, and each has their own unique goals and dreams. With 43% of undergraduates being the first in their families to attend college, UTSA is recognized as a national model for first-generation and transfer students.
Students benefit from research opportunities as early as their first year, working with world-renowned faculty and accessing cutting-edge technology and facilities. A focus on learning outside the classroom challenges Roadrunners to apply knowledge and skills acquired in their courses to hands-on, real-world situations, preparing them for success in competitive job markets. As just a few examples, UTSA students have sailed around the world, designed educational tools for elephants, created video games for injured veterans, and assisted with neighborhood planning and improvements.
A Growing University
With an enrollment of more than 34,000, UTSA is serving an expanding population. To accommodate future demand, the university is investing in new facilities across its campuses. UTSA students have six on-campus housing options ranging from traditional residence halls to apartment-style communities. Student athletes have access to the Roadrunner Athletics Center of Excellence, a 94,000 square foot, $41 million state-of-the-art training facility.
Echoing the growth of Main Campus, UTSA's downtown footprint is expanding. The San Pedro 1 building, home to the university's School of Data Science and National Security Collaboration Center, opened in January 2023. This facility serves as an anchor for San Antonio's Tech Corridor and national leadership in information security. Also downtown, the UTSA Southwest Campus is located on the site of Southwest School of Art, which merged with UTSA in 2022 and continues to serve as a place of artistic exploration and learning for the San Antonio community.
Future-Focused Higher Education
UTSA has gained national recognition as a next-generation Hispanic-thriving institution where students from all backgrounds can excel. UTSA is a recipient of the Seal of Excelencia, a national certification recognizing leadership in advancing Latino student success. Additionally, the university is one of only 21 Hispanic Serving Institutions in the nation to hold a prestigious Tier One classification for research excellence.
UTSA is serving as a model for the urban-serving public universities of the future. Through the transformational learning experiences that we provide, UTSA is creating bold futures for our students, the citizens of San Antonio and beyond.
