Buena High School is a relatively large school for the smaller town of Sierra Vista, AZ. It has a student body that fluctuates around 2,000, and there is a spectrum of students and cliques at Buena. This high school is well established in other communities like Tucson, partly due to its size. My experience is mostly positive, because I stick with advanced classes and most people in those environments are motivated, friendly, and overall accepting. This high school is not significantly unique from other high schools, though, in the fact that there are frequent fights, a large amount of drama (though that's expected in a high school age group), and issues with classes and teachers. I would like to see there be more AP classes, because currently there is no AP Calculus, Physics, Psychology, World History, European History, and more. I would also like to see there be a better funded lunch program to provide more nutritious meals.
I've have a great time at Buena High School finding my place and what I want to do with my life. All the teachers I've had have helped he tremendously and have encouraged me to follow my dreams and even helped me towards them.
I studied at Buena for one semester during my sophomore year, as a part of my exchange program. There, I met a series of both negative and positive aspects; the students were friendly, but not the most academic-oriented. The facilities were satisfactory, and the technical programs offered, such as marketing and engineering, were amazing. I would recommend anyone who's going to attend to make the best out of their experience, choosing the harder classes (the standard level ones are extremely basic) and engaging in experiences that will increment your college application. Try to enjoy the best you can, specially the view.
I felt the school overall was okay, they had a good sports program but lacked in other areas such as Art and Technology sources. I don't feel the school was prepared or provided enough resources for college readiness and felt they did not even want to try or give out scholarships. The school had great clubs, assemblies and held plenty of events but the students either dropped out of school too early or the student GPA always just remained below average.
As a military brat, I have moved nearly 20 times and have changed schools almost as often. Having said this, I consider Buena High School to be above average in a lot of departments. By no means am I saying that this is the best school. Too much funding goes to the athletics departments. We have about 4 gyms, keep getting upgrades on our fields and scoreboards, and have a lot of resources for athletes. The arts (and even some sciences) are looked over. Administration can be incredibly frustrating to deal with especially when you are attempting to get resources for college readiness. I will say that a lot of the teachers here try to do their best for their students regardless. I have received more help in college prep and career readiness from my teachers than I have anywhere else.
The school is large with a diverse student population. Many of the students do not come from homes where they get enough support. This combined with the ever-changing teaching staff creates a situation where students are unlikely to be prepared for life after high school. The few students who are involved in school clubs and things like band do better, but many students will not be ready for life after graduation.
My experience at Buena High School overall has been pretty good. There are many students that are involved in what the school offers and for the most part the school has done a good job. The best experience that I have had is honestly the classes that I've taken and also the HOSA club. The worst experience would have to be just getting caught in all the traffic inside because there is a lot of students. Something that I would like to see change would be the number of classes because I think that there should be more CTE classes for more careers that the students want to pursue so they know if they want to pursue that career or not just by taking the class, it would also be sort of like a head start.
Buena is a school in which students cannot feel safe. The administration is led by a woman who cares for the students in a great way. However, the rest of the administration does not seem to care about the students or their futures in any way. There is a very apparent attempt to show that they pretend to care but it is often very visibly dull and inauthentic.
I have had a great experience with CTE's and the fine arts. They obviously aren't the best available but they are good for a small town. The teachers mostly do their best and the academics are pretty okay.
Buena High School is more average than people think but i also believe it gives people room to strive independently. You care for yourself and make sure you are doing well because its not anyone else's job. Buena isn't as strict as it should be, yes, there are rules, but people still do bad things. Supervisors don't really deal with the drama and the student either do it the right way or don't. They do whats right, or they don't. The school helps build character in a person by giving them the freedom too. Its all about decisions. We are the ones in charge of our future and we cant rely on people to do things for us. If you don't work hard for what you want, you wont get there. It isn't going to be easy, but it will definitely be worth it. Buena is a place where you can be in charge of your future. Its all in your hands whether you make it good or bad. I believe that helps build who your willing to become. I believe Buena prepares you for the real world.
I go to Buena High School in Sierra Vista, Arizona. Some positives notable about Buena is that it's larger than the other high schools in my area. Personally, I enjoy the spaciousness of the school. In addition to its size, Buena has natural lighting from windows on the ceilings in the main halls. This makes the atmosphere feel less suffocated and more breathable, just by the change in lighting. Buena has many different hallways and corridors, so students can get to their classes quickly.
The cons of attending Buena include a lack of bathrooms and interior decor. Half the bathrooms I try to use are always locked, and I end up having to go completely out of my way and be late to class trying to get to one of the few opened bathrooms, which are often crowded. My school's main associating color is blue, but the walls are painted red or yellow. Many things conflict with the themes Buena promotes. Overall, I've enjoyed my four years of high school at Buena, but it could have been better.

There are many issues with Buena High School. Only a few faculty members care about their jobs enough to assist students in getting prepared for the future. The main goal of this school’s administration is to get funding with the actual education being put at the bottom of the list. Counselors do not do jobs in preparing the students for college and life.
Try online options or Benson. School is overcrowded and does prepare students for college. The environment is toxic with bullying.
You can get your work done here if you try, and can have a good time if you put in the effort and want to.
Well I was a bit nervous when I first started attending Buena High school since I was a transfer student my senior year. The first thing I initially noticed was that it is a fairly large school, but even with a large student body and large class sizes the teachers still make time for one on one time with their students to make sure they are always understanding the material. I know all the staff care deeply for their students and have made my transition to a new school as easy as possible and made it a priority to make sure I'm always on track to graduate. Another thing I noticed is that the students were very welcoming to a new student and because of this I have been able to make some good friends. Buena also has a large variety of clubs and sports which are another good way to make friends and feel included in the student body, overall I love my school and I'm proud to be a Buena Colt.
Buena High School offers great music and stem programs but has very poor academic programs and does not value the safety of its students regarding student teacher relations.
The school is very good however one problem I have with the school is that the teachers sometimes act that they don't want to be there.
