How to combine all audio in a multicam clip into one audio track?

We recorded three people having an online discussion using Riverside. I imported all three clips into FCP and synced them according to their audio, then made a multicam clip. I dragged this into the timeline and started making cuts from one speaker to the others. But whenever I make a cut from say, Speaker 1 to Speaker 2, the audio drops out because S1 is not speaking at that moment and the audio from S2 is not enabled, so to speak.

Is there a way to deal with this issue where each speaker has their own audio track (where the other two cannot be heard), but switching to any speaker's video track also switches to their audio track?

There's an icon in the angle viewer that will let you switch video only and leave the audio alone.

Then you should -- I think -- be able to turn on the audio from all tracks in the audio inspector by clicking the checkmark for each.

I'm not at home so I can't check this to verify I'm not making stuff up (again).

I guess I don't see any such check boxes. When you're home, have another look and let me know exactly where (and if) they are.

In the inspector pane, generally on the right, there are 4 tabs: video, color, audio, and info. With the "outer shell" of the multicam clip selected, the bottom of the audio tab will have checkboxes for each audio source. The current angle will already be selected (probably) but you should be able to turn all the others on as well.

to make a multicam clip all you have to do is take each camera, label it's angle, then select all the different angles. right click - new multicam clip.

this results in 1 clip, with however many angles you had, all synced up via audio. each angle also retains it's respective audio source so at any given time you can switch to any angle and any audio source, whenever you want.

I do a pizza show with up to 9 different camera angles. I have the main cam with the main audio that I use. I make the multicam, and then make my cuts, keeping all the different angles having the main audio source. however, the main audio source is the current presenter's chest mic. occasionally, somebody else will say something off camera that isn't picked up by the chest mic. during these times, I'm able to switch the audio source to whatever camera was closest to the speaker at the time. it's all right there for me to grab whenever I need it.

Particularly the bit called “Switch video or audio separately”.

The manual is a great resource.
