What does mount eerie mean to you

Ive been a big fan of the glow pt 2 for about a year now and i recently decided to check out the other microphones albums.I gave mount eerie a listen today i kind of got the concept of the album but didn’t really understand the songs so i was interested to see what your interpretations are of all the tracks.

grows up dies gets eaten by vultures becomes one with the universe

it takes balls for an artist to release a 17 minute song where the first 10 are just foghorns followed by intense drumming.

not saying he's not popular already, but phil could have made it into the mainstream if he took the more accessible side of the TGP2 sound palettes (like the moon and i felt your shape) and took a deep dive through them. but instead, he dropped this experimental, extrovert, weirdo record which i think beats TGP2 by a landslide.

the downside of phil picking mount eerie as the moniker meant to represent a second phase of his career is the fact this album gets overshadowed so damn hard. like, when was the last time someone praised mount eerie the album instead of mount eerie the musician?

mount eerie is pretty widely regarded on alot of forums and review sites as pretty much on par with (though not quite as good) as TGP2. i hear alot of praise for the album, but of course its not nearly as talked about or famous as the glow

Yeah but it's still not very mainstream at all. Phil had the opportunity to go mainstream when he was given a 10 from Pitchfork and had all the talk around the Glow pt2, but he stayed true to his vision which I immensely respect

to me it's about coming to terms with your place in the universe, suggesting the universe exists within itself and all that inhabits it. to die is to merge with the larger universe and be re-dispersed through it. "oh universe, I see your face looks just like mine, we are open wide"

It's very much the "acceptence" portion of The Microphones' story. Phil coming to terms with the Universe and starting anew. Even the album cover reflects this with the skull being a bear skull. Almost like the events of The Glow, Pt. 2 will be long behind him now that he is looking into the future.

it means the world to me as I just lost my dad around 2 days ago and this thing has been the greatest way to cope I have used alongside Elliott Smith’s S/T and El Jardin de los Presentes to help me grieve with his death. Mount Eerie to me represents death and beyond and whole it may not be true I like to believe he’s beyond the Mount Eerie and has reached his Universe Conclusion

There would never be the same album like mount eerie. It's just on different spiritual level for me. Every track just 10/10, just the record where everything is right as it should be

like the afterlife following the glow pt2, phil actually getting over his gal, life death rebirth and all that

To me it’s like the final chapter of the trilogy of it was hot, glow pt. 2 and Mt. eerie. Three grand albums with extravagant song structures, production, and songwriting. Considering how much this album ruminates on birth death and rebirth, this is Phil moving on to another type of project in the future.

All I know is that no one ever asked phil that and he tried to repeatedly explain in complicated songs
