‘Poor Things’ Trailer Spotlights A Reanimated Emma Stone & A Prosthetics-Modified Willem Dafoe

Emma Stone in 'Poor Things'

UPDATED, 9:38 a.m.: Searchlight has today debuted the first full-length trailer for its new film Poor Things, marking the second collaboration between Emma Stone and filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos on the heels of his 2018 Oscar winner The Favourite.

Based on Alasdair Gray’s 1992 novel of the same name, Poor Things follows Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn.

“She’s an experiment. Her brain and her body are not quite synchronized,” says a nearly unrecognizable Dafoe, with a face transformed by prosthetics, in the trailer. “But she is progressing at an accelerated pace.”
