Will Smith has given a promising update regarding I Am Legend 2.

While speaking to Entertainment Tonight about the highly anticipated sequel to the 2007 post-apocalyptic film, Smith, 55, revealed that he and Michael B. Jordan "had a couple weeks together about a month ago."

"I think it's looking good," added Smith. "[We have some] really solid ideas... I think we're going to make it on screen together. That dude is the truth, so I would love to do that."

In the original film based on the 1954 Richard Matheson novel of the same name, Smith plays scientist Robert Neville, the struggling lone survivor in a world where a disease that spread among humans turned them into zombie-like beings that hid from sunlight.

Fans first learned that Smith and Jordan, 37, would be starring and producing the new film in March 2022.

Smith confirmed the news on his Instagram account by posting a photo of a deserted street. While the post had no caption, he tagged Jordan at the center of the image.

That same month, Smith told Entertainment Tonight that he was set on making a second film due to the "really, really cool concept" that he and Jordan helped create.

"It was one of those ones I was gonna leave alone, and then I heard the idea," he told the outlet at the time. While no details about the script have been released, screenwriter Akiva Goldsman told Deadline in February 2023 that the new film "will start a few decades later than the first."

"I'm obsessed with The Last of Us, where we see the world just post-apocalypse but also after a 20-, 30-year lapse," said Goldsman about his inspiration.

"You see how the earth reclaims the world, and there's something beautiful in the question of, as man steps away from being the primary tenant, what happens? That will be especially visual in New York," Goldsman said, adding that "the possibilities are endless."
