I built a distraction free Grammarly alternative for Chrome

Hello webdev

I had this idea of building an affordable, distraction-free Grammarly alternative for a while. So, last month, I took the time to actually building and shipping it.

It's a Chrome extension designed to work on any site you write.

Why I built this?

I have lost many freelancing gigs, clients, and networking opportunities because my writing sucks. Most of the time, I meant something but the written version is quite something. I struggled to communicate the way I wanted. So, when ChatGPT was launched, it was a godsend for me. I completely relied on ChatGPT to polish my emails, texts, sentences in my articles, etc.

Over the time, I felt that the whole process can be automated with a Chrome extension so that I don't need to switch tabs when I am working. So that I can write anywhere I want - Gmail, Medium, Substack, etc and select the portion of the text I want to fix/polish and hit the button to improve it and insert in the right place. Sometimes, ChatGPT doesn't get it right in the first attempt, so I have to prompt it again to get it in right tone. So, I built the ability to easily prompt right where it is as well.

I find that the popular writing tools out there has become annoying with constant popups to make you opt for a higher plan, completely unusable. I wanted to build a quiet and light tool.

Since I am relying on OpenAI API for this, I can't offer a free version but I am offering a very generous plan at $5/mo for unlimited writing (I am not sure if this is a smart decision, only time will tell 😅)

If you are someone like me, I hope you will enjoy this extension. Please share any feedback/tips you have. Thank you.

[edit]: fixed a typo (god sent -> godsend)
