9-1-1 Recap: A Deadly Crisis Unearths Another Traumatic Secret From Bobby’s Past — Plus, Look Who’s Home!
Raise your hand if you were totally fooled by ABC’s promo for this week’s 9-1-1, which led viewers to believe that we were in for an hour-long standoff between Bobby and Amir (Malcom-Jamal Warner), the nurse who lost the love of his life in the Minnesota fire caused by Bobby all those years ago.
To be fair, there was a brief stand-off in a sketchy abandoned house. And Amir did hold a knife to Bobby’s throat at one point. But the two were more allies than enemies, teaming up to escape from a gang of murderous coyotes near the southern border.
The emotional hour also flashed back to Bobby’s childhood, revealing the horrific event that began his tumultuous relationship with alcohol. As a boy, Bobby idolized his father, a decorated firefighter — enough to excuse his abusive, alcoholic tendencies, even after it drove his mother and brother out of their home.
Bobby essentially became his father’s caretaker, until the day he accidentally set a small fire in the kitchen while cooking dinner. With his father passed out drunk, Bobby was forced to call 9-1-1 to handle the blaze, which only made his father angrier. Bobby sought refuge in his bedroom, drowning out his father’s voice by cranking up the volume on his Walkman.
Unfortunately, that made Bobby unable to hear his father fall down in the living room, where he bumped his head on the coffee table and bled out on the floor. Bobby didn’t know until the next morning, when he discovered his father’s corpse — a traumatic experience young Bobby remedied with a drink. And many more after that.
On a much lighter note, was everyone glad to have the Grant household full again? Harry’s return (albeit in the body of a new actor) was a nice surprise a few weeks ago, and we honestly didn’t expect to see May at all this season. Now if only we could get Michael and David to fly back for a visit, we’d have a proper family reunion on our hands.

Can the show please keep Malcom-Jamal Warner?? Yes, it’s a big cast, but he’s so dynamic and I feel like there is great creative potential for his character.
No way, he was boring. They should bring Tommy because Buck, that should be the most important story going forward. Better yet get rid of Eddie and have Tommy take his place!

I second that. Or at least getting rid of Eddie. His character is super boring. It’s like his whole identity is his son Christopher.
Bobby is from Minnesota, and the fire was in Minneapolis-St.Paul, not Baltimore.
At first the show was a little confusing. I thought the man in the flash back was Bobby but realized the boy was Bobby
I was confused when my closed captions were referring to a Tim because I was also thinking that was Bobby.
So did I, until I realized, “hey, that’s not Peter Krause!”
I hope Bobby reconnects with his brother Charlie at some point in the future.
I was so glad to see May. Oh, my poor Bobby and the crap he has gone through.
I’m loving the season, but missing the hilarious emergencies! I wonder if that was something ABC did to lighten the budget this season to see how the show would do? It could also be with the strike, but I’m loving the family dynamic storylines too.
This year’s OTT Disaster budget was already spent on a sinking cruise ship :)

Kind of boring for the penultimate episode. Considering the shortened season and the prolonged opening disaster, I wish we didn’t have another episode all about Bobby with no regular suppporting characters.
Actually, it was the ante penultimate as there are two episodes left on 5he schedule.
I think it was a great episode. While I have enjoyed this season, I miss just having the team responding to calls together. It’s seemed more about character storylines this season than 911. I’d like a more balanced mix.
Don’t want to see Bobby die.
I hate that Buck is with a man. Hope that ends soon.

I thought Bobby’s family died in Wisconsin. How did the Baltimore fire become the one where his family died?
Minnesota isn’t Wisconsin.
It was Minnesota, not Wisconsin or Baltimore.
Not impressed luv the show. But a full episode of Bobby,was boring,kept hopping the team would show up.

It’s ABC, they pretty much destroyed Scrubs. Hoping this doesn’t keep going downhill.
My favorite show this year and over the last few years. I love all of the characters and the stories. Literally the best show on TV right now.
DVR did get to see last minutes of show. When young Bobby started drinking wine when dad was taken out of house.
