A Visit from Peking University Delegation

[Hong Kong, May 3, 2024] — A delegation from Peking University, led by Professor JIA Jiyou, full professor and the head of the Department of Educational Technology at the Graduate School of Education, visited the Centre for Learning, Teaching and Technology (LTTC) of The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK). The visit aimed to facilitate communication and the sharing of innovative approaches in learning, teaching, and research, with a focus on generative artificial intelligence (AI) in education and gamification in the metaverse.

Dr CHENG Kwok Shing Gary, Executive Co-Director of LTTC, warmly welcomed the delegation and commended their visit. The visit commenced at the AI Education Lab (E-1/F-07), where the Peking University colleagues learned about the recent work of the LTTC Large Language Model (LLM) Studio and experienced the newly launched Model as a Service (MaaS) platform for educators to build up their own smart workflow with a low-threshold. Prof JIA and his doctoral students tried to assemble and deploy their own generative AI-powered workflows with different LLMs and self-created vectorised datasets. They also exchanged ideas on using AI in education with LTTC colleagues and offered valuable suggestions on further design and implications of generative AI in education.

Next, the delegation proceeded to the Metaverse Education Lab (E-P-12) where they experienced various metaverse spaces and game-based learning developed by LTTC colleagues. The interactive learning scenarios and gamified learning designs in the metaverse for fostering creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration were commended by the Peking University delegation.

Professor JIA and Dr CHENG expressed their delight at having the opportunity to visit and meet at EdUHK. They believe that the collaboration between Peking University and EdUHK promises exciting opportunities for advancing education through emerging technologies in the future.
