- SSTSeattleSeattle32 contributionsWe wandered around the cemetery which is laid out on a large hillside. It's huge and the majority of the graves are in poor condition, but we enjoyed reading the headstones still standing. So many men died young in the mines - mid 20s to early 30s. It was sad to think about.
The walk is mostly uphill and over uneven ground; wear comfortable shoes.Written April 27, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is a guided tour and you are taken all through the building upstairs. Your ghost sighting will vary. We didnt see any but we did have a few nice drinks in the saloon. Worth the price of admission just to tour the hitoric building!Written October 1, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SSTSeattleSeattle32 contributionsPiper's Opera House hosted famous stars from the United States and Europe in the 1880s. In wealthy Virginia City, it was the place to be seen.
Still in use today this old building, which is filled with historical photos, art work, and furniture, hosts a variety of performances, including concerts and plays. It can be rented for weddings and private parties, too.
My husband and I were lucky enough to tour the Opera House while visiting Virginia CIty. Although we were the only two on the tour, our guide Renee gave us a through rundown on the building's history. It was fascinating to consider the bawdy behavior that occurred within those walls (especially among the rich miner owners and the prostitutes who dallied behind closed curtains in the box seats overlooking the stage).
At the end of the tour, I asked if the building was haunted. Renee's eyes lit up and the stories unfolded. Yes, that building has it's share of spirits! And many people who tour it have experienced them. Fortunately, the spirits steered clear of us! But we left with a a newfound knowledge about Virginia City.Written April 27, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Susan M7 contributionsWe are on an 8 month cross country trip seeing so many things along the way. Our day in Virginia City will surely stand out as one of the best on our trip. We went the Saturday before Memorial Day not realizing their parade was that day. We arrived early (9:30 am) and paid $10 for all day parking right in the center of town. Much of the street parking was blocked due to the parade but there was still plenty of parking at that hour on street a bit further from the center. Shops were fun, people were very friendly and the parade was incredible. Such an all American patriotic feeling to be there for that. We had a great lunch at a dog friendly cafe. Hated to leave. I’d recommend Virginia City for everyone.Written May 27, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Louise MCastle Rock, CO3,718 contributionsWe took a side trip to Virginia City from Reno to Lake Tahoe just to see this place. The reviews did not deceive, it was really cool. The story of the mansion is fascinating and our guide spent plenty of time telling us about it and answering questions. After going through the first couple of rooms we were turned loose for individual exploring. The grounds were also quite lovely.Written June 4, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
