Is a C that bad..

Question

So I don't want to get into too much detail about what is going on in my life but let's just say I'm not the most mentally stable person.. However I am very motivated and ambitious to do good in school but my mental health has made that IMPOSSIBLE ..

and I have a C in one of my classes and the year is about to end. It could go up, could go down. I have a Bunch of B's and one A. These aren't the worst grades I'm aware but I'm trying to not disappoint my parents ... and I'm usually a straight A student.

but ig I'm asking would colleges look at the C and be like "oh..."😭😭 and tips on how to not feel like a failure thanks

Dude, a C is not gonna kill you. I have like a 3.8 weighted GPA and I’ve gotten two C’s. You might not get into like an Ivy, but depending on what you want to study, you’ll be fine.

I seen people get a bunch of C’s and get into ivy’s but I think it depends what class it is

Yeah, probably. Also, Ivy schools are also based on like extracurricular and other stuff like that so it just depends

Well, all that depends. How bad is your GPA? And is it weighted or unweighted? On top of that, are you looking for Ivy League, or just a decent school? If you are looking for a decent school, and you have one blemish on your record, you will be fine. Ivy Leagues these days are kind of a joke, so honestly I wouldn't worry about most Ivy League schools.

You are doing really good, BTW. Better than I did, and I am just going to a public university. Tbh unless you're going for law or engineering I don't see what going to an Ivy League would do for you.

My high school had a saying of "C for college, D for Diploma". As long as you get a C or higher, you should be fine.

Wow I never heard about this saying before thanks for sharing it

Idk what grade you are in or what type of colleges you want to attend but it's not the end of the world. It has consequences for sure. I had mostly B's, a few A's, and one C (that was both semesters) in 9th grade. I got into several T25 universities (watch people's confusion as I say I'm an unhooked Asian with a 3.6 GPA getting into T30s, from an overrepresented state and major too) but I could've gotten more scholarships+acceptances had my GPA not been tarnished. People say 9th grade doesn't matter but it does.

There are some scholarships that pretty much automatically disqualify you for a certain number of C's, and a C is a lot more eye-catching than a B to any selective admissions committee. If you turn it around it looks impressive but the GPA doesn't rebound.

With regards to the worth, I feel you. If people don't perceive you as smart or worthy that's the most crushing thing. Parents sometimes don't express their disappointment but then you hear them whispering, talking to siblings/friends/relatives, lashing out. It feels like your bad grades define you. I recall talking to a relative about something completely distant, and being told that it would be solved and my relationship with others would get better once my grades were better. Saddest thing is that they weren't wrong. People (if they care) will try to think of you as this, but you have to emerge with a wiped face and clear ambition. Set aside some time to acknowledge and deal with what is happening, but when you're studying, in school, or testing - slap yourself on the cheeks, deep breath, and focus. Remember you're only disappointed because you know that you can do better. Much better.

A c should be ok, ive gotten a c in classes and i passed

Not being mentally stable is bad too ya know. . .

I struggled with my mental health through most of high school, colleges do care about your grades, and idk about your mental health story, but those make some KILLER college essays, and they do pay a good amount of attention to those. I hope this helps and I hope you feel great during the rest of high school!
