Charles Greeney Obituary

Charles "Chuck" T. Greeney
November 3, 1954 - May 19, 2021
New Windsor, NY
Charles "Chuck" T. Greeney of New Windsor, NY entered into eternal rest on May 19, 2021 at Montefiore St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh, NY. He was 66 years old.
The son of the late William Greeney and Adele (Tullio) Greeney, Chuck was born on November 3, 1954 in Brooklyn, NY. He was raised and loved his home on Beaver Dam Lake and would visit his parents until their death. Chuck resided in New Windsor, NY and was also a part time resident of Owego, NY.
Chuck was a retired Federal government employee with over 35 years of service.
He was an active member of the Black Rock Fish & Game Club and of the St. George's Episcopal Church Cemetery Committee in Newburgh NY. Chuck enjoyed camping in Pennsylvania, visiting casinos, and was an avid history buff. He helped many older Veterans to find their medals and helped some to get into the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor. His greatest achievement was being awarded a proclamation from the Mayor of Owego naming a "Charles T. Greeney Day" for helping to promote the traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall several years ago.
A family statement reads: "Chuck was a lover of all people, animals and his God. He was a faith-filled person and always ended all his conversations with "Be Blessed". Chuck was a giving person who was kind to everyone who crossed his path. His favorite saying was "How's your day going?" He had a great sense of humor and was always willing to give up his time to help others in all ways possible. He will be dearly missed by all for his kindness.
Chuck is survived by his brother: William Greeney (Diane) of New Windsor, NY; nephew, John Greeney (Jessica) and their children, Abigail and Lucas. He is also survived by his fiancée, Barbara Kowitski of Endwell, NY and his longtime dearest friends, Robin Bello and Catherine Costello. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Adele Greeney as well as his beloved dogs, Clancy and Gizmo.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 24th at Quigley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Inc., 337 Hudson Street, Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY. Based on new CDC guidelines adopted by NYS, fully vaccinated individuals do not need to wear masks or be socially distanced, but unvaccinated individuals must continue to wear masks and be socially distanced in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 25th at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, 340 Hudson Street, Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY. Interment will follow the Mass at Bethlehem Cemetery, New Windsor, NY.
Contributions: St. George's Episcopal Church Cemetery Committee, 105 Grand St., Newburgh, NY 12550, or the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor, 374 Temple Hill Rd., New Windsor, NY 12553.

Not sure what to say?

My condolences to Chucks family - I just found out that he passed when my annual Christmas card to him was returned. Though we rarely talked in person in our adult years, we would always send a yearly card.
I knew Chuck when he lived at Beaver Dam with his parents. His mother was the sweetest lady who taught me how to make French fries and his Dad was always at work. We spent many an afternoon riding on his motorcycle going to poker runs throughout the area. We always had a lot fun during the summer at his lake.
He would always lend a helping hand when needed and helped my mother when my dad passed with the estate taxes. My mom was forever grateful to him for helping and guiding her through those times. He always was a good friend to me and my family.
He always brought a smile to your face and you knew he had a loving heart. He was a good forever friend who is sadly missed. RIP Chuck

I am so saddened to hear of Chuck´s passing. I was his neighbor on Rocky Lane many, many years ago. I saw Chuck a few times over the years, as I would drive by the old neighborhood, and he would be outside. Earlier this year, we spoke and exchanged emails, and caught up, sharing some laughs of both past and present times. Chuck was a kind person, with a great sense of humor. May he rest in eternal peace.

I have known Chucky for 40 years. We became close while going to a group called The Commodore 64 user group of Orange County. Over the years we had many good times together. We would take our boats out on the Hudson River, tie them together and play chess. He took me to my first Civil War re-enactment near Vails Gate. He used to spend hours making color graphic moving pictures with his Commodore 64, then post them on a bulletin board that I ran called the "M&M all night connection" before the internet existed. He asked my son Kevin to make him a computer when I told him how knowledge my son Kevin was getting with computers. I'm not sure he realy needed a computer,, I think he wanted to help my son like he helped so many in his life & he did. That computer build was the first of many my son did after Chucky told Kevin & I how talented in building that computer. Chucky was all about helping others. He gave us his pool he had at his New Windsor home of which my family got years of enjoyment swimming in it. He & I knew we could call each other any time night or day if either of us were in trouble. Late one afternoon he was boating & had hit something disabling his boat. He called me to help, so I took my boat & towed him back. He said I saved his life that day preventing a barge from running over him. I have so many wonderful memories of him. He was my only long time friend, the only one that refused to fade away as all my other friends did over the years. We had many talks about God, and I have watched him over the past 10 years get closer and closer to God. There never was, and will never be anyone like him. I will forever miss my best & only long time friend, Chuck Greeney, lovingly known to me as Chucky, and he always called me Mikey. My condolences to Barbara, and his family. God made Chucky & then broke the mold...

Greeney Family,
Every time Chuck came into the pharmacy he always had a smile, told us a joke and asked if we wanted a cup of coffee. I know he would’ve gotten it if we said yes. He had a kind heart and will be sorely missed. Please accept our deepest condolences.
Fondly,
Hannaford Pharmacy
