No Threat Found After Bethesda School Placed On Lockdown

Police said a K-9 unit and officers were called to the secure the building after a reported threat at Bethesda Chevy Chase High School.

BETHESDA, MD — Bethesda Chevy Chase High School was placed on lockdown Thursday after the school received a reported threat, police said. The threat was later deemed unfounded, according to Montgomery County police.

Classes were also dismissed for the remainder of Thursday, police said.

A family reunification area was located at the Lynnbrook Local Park at 8008 Newdale Road, police said shortly before 1 p.m.

A police transmission reported by MoCo360 said school administration received a threat shortly before 11:30 a.m. that a suspect was in the building with an AR-15 rifle and pipe bombs.

Montgomery County police were called to the school to investigate the validity of the threat. In an update posted shortly after noon, police said officers had secured the scene and K-9 officers were also at the school helping to clear the building.

MoCo360 also reported multiple police vehicles outside the school and students standing across the street as police investigated. Authorities were diverting traffic in front of the school at East-West Highway and Chelton Road.
