The wealthy chairman of First Division Football Club, Burnville United, makes an unethical approach to a star player of another club, and the ensuing scandal costs him his job.
What might have just been a run of the mill comedy about the transfer of a 50s football player from one team to another is livened by the fun performance of James 'Mr Kipling' Hayter, the supporting performances of John 'We're dooomed' Laurie, Thora Hird, and the stunning Diana Dors, and a snappy bit of directing from veteran Maurice Elvey.
All adds up to an entertaining package set in a printing factory up North, with everyone interested in Glyn Houston's star player, including his dumb blonde girlfriend Mavis (Sheila Shand Gibbs, who was still making guest appearances on TV in 2011).
