Genesis Performs Final Concert, Peter Gabriel In Attendance

Genesis ended an illustrious 55-year career on Saturday night with one final concert at London’s the O2 Arena. Current frontman Phil Collins acknowledged the historic occasion during Saturday’s show and also pointed out the band’s former frontman, Peter Gabriel, was in the audience for Genesis’ finale.

Saturday marked the last concert on Genesis’ The Last Domino? reunion tour. Phil Collins and other members of the group had been warning the trek would indeed be the band’s farewell tour. Collins sang and played percussion from a chair during a run postponed and rescheduled numerous times due to the COVID-19 pandemic with Phil’s son, Nic Collins, on drums. Phil and co-founding Genesis members Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford led the latest Genesis lineup through a 23-song performance on Saturday featuring the same setlist as all other The Last Domino? stops besides two concerts in Chicago where “Misunderstanding” replaced “Duchess.”

“Tonight is a very special night,” Collins told the crowd just before a “Land Of Confusion” performance. “It’s the last stop of the tour and it’s the last show for Genesis.” Phil went on to joke, “After tonight we’ll have to get real jobs.” Watch Phil Collins confirm Saturday’s show would be Genesis’ last:

Later in the night, Phil Collins pointed out Peter Gabriel was in the crowd before performing “Domino.” Peter Gabriel fronted Genesis from the group’s formation in 1967 through his departure in 1975. “Maybe he’s the one shouting for ‘Supper’s Ready,'” Phil quipped of Gabriel, who joined the band for one 1982 guest appearance after leaving the group and then said, “Let’s move on before one of us dies.” Members of Genesis’ crew provided the signature dance during the “I Can’t Dance” that started the evening’s encore.
