Coconut palms, white sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters – the Famous Five are ready for a relaxing beach holiday. But no sooner have George, Julian, Dick, Anne, and Timmy touched down on the exotic island than they sniff out another adventure: while Uncle Quentin is off researching with a scientist friend, they discover a shipwreck while diving. There they find a mysterious compass – which local girl Joe is sure will lead them to pirate treasure. George, Julian, Dick, and Anne quickly become friends with her and find out that the investor Mr Haynes wants to drive Joe's family out of the bay, so he can build a huge holiday resort. The treasure could save their home! An adventure-filled race through the jungle ensues - with the crooks Cassi and Nick hot on the kids' heels. Then Julian is bitten by a highly poisonous beetle just as the compass is about to lead them into a gold-filled cave... Will the friends manage to keep the treasure from the clutches of gangsters and find an antidote for Julian before the bulldozers roll into Joe's village?
