The National Civil Rights Museum, located at the Lorraine Motel where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was tragically assassinated April 4, 1968, is the world's first and only comprehensive overview of the civil rights movement in exhibit form. The museum is closed on Tuesdays.

The most significant landmark of Tupelo's modern history is a modest, two-room house where the King of Rock 'n' Roll was born on Jan. 8, 1935. The Elvis Presley Birthplace is part of the Elvis Presley Park and has been restored to the period before the singer's family moved to Memphis. The Elvis Presley Park includes the Elvis Presley Museum, Memorial Chapel, Gift Shop and a life-size statue of "Elvis at 13".
