  It could be pretty hard for a lot of people in Gaz Coombes’ position to make it solo. After having been the face of 90s mega-group Supergrass, many would have thought his identity was too ingrained in the band to really have a career going solo. Now 4 years into his highly successful solo career, Gaz is making sure his name rings as loudly as Supergrasses ever did.

  Considering Supergrasses youthful energy on songs like ‘Alright’ and ‘Caught by the Fuzz’ was one of the main propellants in their success, Gaz has done a great job maturing his sound without losing that hint of fun and excitement. One of the most striking things about his set is how rich and full Gaz’s voice sounds, leading the songs with confidence and increasing the intensity for slow numbers or the aggression for the fast-paced ones. When you’re so synonymous with your old act, Solo careers can often be a tricky path but Gaz has absolutely excelled in this new role and a quick visit to any of his live shows will confirm that for you.

• Gaz Coombes is amazing.

  The music, performance and artist.

  The London Palladium is not.

  The last time I was there was 1992 for Dinosaur Jr. My ears bled and i quote it as the loudest concert I have ever gone to.

  The last time I saw Gaz was 3 weeks ago at the Rough Trade record release. It was one of the most beautiful concerts I've been to. Gaz, his guitar, keyboard and magic boxes.

  After last night, I realize that the issue is the Palladium.

  It was built as an acoustic hall for performances without amplification.

  With modern concerts the air pressure is abnormal and blows out your ears.

  in 1992 this led to my ears ringing for a week.

  Last night, it led to Gaz being robbed of his soul and the songs of their intimicy.

  A real shame.

  I highly recommend seeing Gaz Coombes. To me he is a true artist and lovely performer.

  I will never go see a show at the London Palladium again. (Unless it is acoustic !)

• Great venue. Great atmosphere. Great performance. Loved it.

  I've been a far-off fan of Gaz Coombes for a while now. Dipped into his music, but not listened to him recently but boy did he bring me up to date on what I've been missing!

  From full-on barnstorming rock numbers back to solo piano ballads, then back onto racaous anthems I thought his performance was nuanced and strong throughout and his voice was phenomenal particularly when on the piano.

  It was just great to see an actual musician who can write his own material and then perform it live brilliantly.

  A real joy. Many thanks Gaz.

• Was always a quiet fan of Supergrass, so after hearing some of Gaz's new stuff on the radio I was pretty excited to see him play live.

  He didn't disappoint, musically expansive and great to see where he's at in both his life and music. His voice was faultless and a great personality dhine through from start to finish.

  It was really nice to be able to help him kick off his tour at the Fleece which is a great venue. Best of luck Gaz, I'm sure the tour is gonna be a ripper!!

• Great show! Small, but perfect venue. Did not know Gaz was gonna be alone, but the man makes more than enough noise to please the senses. He played most of his solo stuff plus some new ones that will be out May the 4th. But his second encore was a the classic "Caught by the Fuzz". Everything was just right.

• Amazing gig, beautiful venue. Everything looked and sounded awesome. It was nice to having seating and not to be squashed into a dirty sweaty venue so had a great view. Gaz was on top form. Very enjoyable.
