First Shemekia Copeland CD I ever bought and it will certainly NOT be the last one, either (lol)! Homegirl's the stone-cold TRUTH when it comes to her fiesty no-nonsense vocal take on old-school blues, R&B, funk, and soul. Late, great New Orleans music icon Dr. John put in stellar work at the production helm and the musicians gathered for this studio project were 100% "tuned in" from the very first track right on to the last. It's amazing Shemekia is not more well-known than she is, especially among my generation which she also happens to be a part of ('Xennial', to be more specific). This was only her third official studio release at the time and already she had a fully-matured sound even then. Simply incredible...
