Caesar returns in triumph to Rome and the people pour out of their homes to celebrate. Alarmed by the autocrat’s popularity, the educated élite conspire to bring him down. After his assassination, civil war erupts on the streets of the capital. Nicholas Hytner’s production will thrust the audience into the street party that greets Caesar’s return, the congress that witnesses his murder, the rally that assembles for his funeral and the chaos that explodes in its wake.

A solid piece of theatre that I think needs to be experienced in person to get the full effect! But watching it on a laptop was still a pretty great experience! I’m not the biggest fan of Shakespeare because I don’t particularly understand old English, but I was pretty invested in this version of Julius Caesar! Ben Whishaw is always a delight and his Brutus is definitely memorable! And my favourite was Michelle Fairley as Cassius because her monologues were so good! There are a lot of amazing larger than life scenes and set changes that I’ll never forget! If you’re a fan of the play or history of Julius Caesar and haven’t seen this version of the play then I highly recommend it!
the people standing in the mosh pit for the entirety of a Shakespeare play are so much better, bigger and stronger than me. when I have to stand for more than ten minutes at a time I collapse to the floor and start sobbing
very silly that it's common practice to teach plays meant to be performed only within its pages when there are plenty productions online. shakespeare's plays are so much more digestible performed as intended. this was a great production. michelle fairley is an incredible cassius.
yond cassius has a lean and hungry look, she thinks too much; such men are dangerous.
