Our History

1981

Ashton on Mersey

Ashton on Mersey School was founded in 1981, following the amalgamation of separate Boys’ and Girls’ schools. The school prides itself on its traditional values, high expectations where pupils can thrive academically, socially and emotionally. The school is proud to have a number of prestigious business partners including a long-standing partnership with Manchester United which began in 1996.

2005

Broadoak

Broadoak School partnered with Ashton on Mersey School in 2005 to create the West Trafford Learning Partnership. The school has gone from strength to strength, raising standards and expectations across all areas. Working in collaboration with Forest Gate Academy and Partington Central Academy serving the educational needs and aspirations of the Partington community, our schools are at the heart of the community.

2012

The Dean Trust

In May 2012, The Dean Trust was formed comprising Ashton on Mersey School, Broadoak School and Forest Gate Academy. Within 7 years, the Trust expanded to comprise 10 schools located across the Manchester, Trafford, Knowsley and Wigan areas, serving some of the most socio-economically deprived communities in the UK. The Trust is supported centrally by the Believe Learning Institute who provide a breadth of opportunities for Continuing Professional Development, for all of our talented staff.

2012

Forest Gate Academy

Forest Gate Academy joined The Dean Trust, as its first primary school, in September 2012. Since joining, Forest Gate Academy has flourished and has established strong collaborative partnerships with Partington Central Academy and Broadoak School, to serve the Partington community. The school has been on a journey to excellence, improving standards and raising expectations for all children. In its most recent inspection (June 2018) the school was successful in maintaining its ‘good’ Ofsted rating with the report stating that “the trust has been pivotal in the school’s rapid improvement journey”.

2014

Lord Derby Academy

Lord Derby Academy joined The Dean Trust in February 2014. The school has gone from strength to strength since joining the Trust and is now oversubscribed and the school of choice in the local area. Working collaboratively with our West Hub primaries Park View Academy and Blacklow Brow School, providing a fully inclusive curriculum to serve the needs of the local community.

2015

Dean Trust Ardwick

In September 2015, Dean Trust Ardwick started its journey as a brand-new school in the heart of Manchester with 120 Year 7 pupils. The school quickly became a well-established ‘school of choice’ in the local Manchester community. The school serves a diverse community positively reflecting the rich cultural mix of the community that it serves.

2016

Park View Academy

In 2016, Park View Academy became the second Dean Trust primary school. The school works collaboratively with Blacklow Brow School to provide a rich and creative primary curriculum which is exciting, fun and enriched through first hand experiences. Collectively, Park View Academy, Blacklow Brow School and Lord Derby Academy serve the local community of Huyton, Knowsley.

2016

Partington Central Academy

Partington Central Academy joined The Dean Trust in September 2016. As part of the Partington Learning Partnership, working collaboratively alongside Forest Gate Academy, both schools are at the heart of the local community. The school aims to develop lifelong learners with the dedication and resilience to aim high and achieve to the best of their ability and feel proud of their achievements.

2017

Dean Trust Wigan

Dean Trust Wigan joined the Trust in April 2017 following a very positive period of support. As part of the Wigan Learning Partnership alongside Dean Trust Rose Bridge, the school is dedicated to helping children develop into confident successful and responsible adults who are able to play an active part in society, regardless of background.

2017

Blacklow Brow

In September 2017, Blacklow Brow School became the fourth primary school to join The Dean Trust. A one-form-entry school, Blacklow Brow is at the heart of the local community and is very much the school of choice. As part of our West Hub Primary Learning Partnership, alongside Park View Academy, the school aims to nurture and develop lifelong learners through a stimulating and engaging curriculum, providing pupils with the skills and knowledge to follow their chosen pathway through life.

2019

Dean Trust Rose Bridge

In February 2019, Dean Trust Rose Bridge joined The Dean Trust. Having already served the local community in Wigan for over 100 years, the school continues to be popular and oversubscribed. Working collaboratively with Dean Trust Wigan and governed jointly through the Wigan Learning Partnership, both schools strive to deliver an engaging, fully inclusive curriculum to ensure all pupils are able to access good quality education and ensure they can progress along their chosen pathways either through further education or work.

2023

Abraham Moss Community School

Following sustained and successful partnership working, and a period of due diligence The Dean Trust are delighted to welcome Abraham Moss Community School into our family of schools from 1st September 2023. As the Trust’s first all through school and our second school in Manchester, we are delighted to welcome staff and pupils who will bring a wealth of experience and expertise. We look forward to serving all aspects of the school community to build upon the strong links which are already in place.
