Thank you!!
My takeaway from this is that the king was a dreamer surrounded by doers, and also the most important man in any room he walked into. As a result he comes off as a bit of a bumbler, nagged by his parents, while others are put upon to keep his ego stoked.
The account of his marriage, which makes up the interesting parts, come across as damage control. It reads like a defense lawyer making rebuttals to the claims made in Diana's book. Not so much "What happened?" as "How to you explain this?" Very little information is volunteered. We are supposed to believe he was scrupulously faithful to a young lady who flew off the handle with almost no provocation and it reads to me like gaslighting. He didn't contact his mistress for five years even though he bought a house not far from hers that made his wife miserable? Not buying it. Especially since Jimmy Savile only gets a single sentence in this massive tome. Clearly they were careful to omit passages that might come back to bite the future king in the rear.
