I'll be coming home just to be alone
'Cause I know you're not there
And I know you don't care
I can hardly wait to leave this place

No matter how hard I try
You're never satisfied
This is not a home
I think I'm better off alone
You always disappear
Even when you're here
This is not my home
I think I'm better off alone
Home, home, this house is not a
Home, home
This house is not a home

By the time you come home
I'm already stoned
You turn off the TV
And you scream at me
I can hardly wait
'Til you get off my case

No matter how hard I try
You're never satisfied
This is not a home
I think I'm better off alone
You always disappear
Even when you're here
This is not my home
I think I'm better off alone
Home, home, this house is not a
Home, home
This house is not a
Home, home
This house is not a
Home, home
This house is not a home

I'm better off alone

No matter how hard I try
You're never satisfied
This is not a home
I think I'm better off alone
You always disappear
Even when you're here
This is not my home
I think I'm better off alone
Home, home, this house is not a
Home, home
This house is not a
Home, home
This house is not a
Home, home
This house is not a home

    My Interpretation

this seems like an arguement between a parent and their kid see what i mean

Child: I'll be coming home just to be alone 'Cause I know you're not there and I know that you don't care I can hardly wait to leave this place

Parent: No matter how hard I try You're never satisfied

Child: This is not a home I think I'm better off alone

Parent: You always disappear Even when you're here

Child: this is not my home I think I'm better off alone home. Home. This house is not a Home. Home. This house is not a home.

Child: By the time you come home, I'm already stoned You turn off the TV and you scream at me I can hardly wait 'til you get off my case

Parent: No matter how hard I try You're never satisfied

Child: This is not a home I think I'm better off alone

Parent: You always disappear Even when you're here

Child: This is not my home I think I'm better off alone home. Home. This house is not a Home. Home. This house is not a Home. Home. This house is not a home.

    Child: I'M BETTER OFF ALONE!

Home. This house is not a home.

im sorry if i dumb it down but for me and probaly for most people this is the easiest way to understand so.....yeah....

ill be coming home just to be alone (that person is coming home because (s)he wants to have time to their selves) cause i know you're not there and i know that you dont care (the person (s)he is lving with isnt there and wouldnt care if (s)he was even there with them i can hardly wait to leave this place (literal)

no matter how hard i try your never satisfied ((s)he tries to do everything to please the person (s)he is living with and its not working out) this is not a home i think im better off alone (literal) you always disappear even when your here (the person (s)he is living with ignores him/her) this is not my home i think im better off alone home home this house is not a home home this house is not a home (literal)

By the time you come home, I'm already *stoned (literal) You turn off the TV and you scream at me (literal) I can hardly wait 'til you get off my case ((s)he cant wait till the person they're living with stops bothering them about being stoned or whatever they did wrong)

(look at the top for the chorus)

    IM BETTER OFF ALONE (literal)

(look at the top for the chorus)

*stoned meaning use of drugs or being drunk

the meaning of the song's pretty clear.. he's a slob and he hates that his girlfriend has to pick up after him. Still he knows he's wrong, but he's blaming it on the chick. Intense song.

i definetly disagree with ladypeace. this song definetly means that his home doesnt feel like home that his girlfriends never there and when she is she just screams at him

This song is actually about their hometown...being Peterborough/Norwood, Ontario. Its about growing up and what life was like with their parents...its a very personal song and i can relate to it a lot because i live in Peterborough and that..and go to Norwood a lot. If you look at one of the versions of the song you can see the Memorial Centre and their performance there...The Memorial Centre is in Peterborough and it quickly shows the "Peterborough' Sign...this song is definitely about life in Peterborough/Norwood.

Those are great interpretaions of this song...i always thought it was about a man hating his wife or girlfriend because she always screams at him....i never thought about the whole child/parent thing, but if u think about it, it could pertain to that too...

Borsch11, I'm definitely inclined to agree with you...

Except for that this song always makes me think of my mom speciffically. She and my Dad got divorced, because she wants to be a teenager instead of help raise her 2 daughters, my little Sis and I, and when he says things like, "You always disappear, even when your here!" it reminds me that my mom doesn't really give a flying fuck about us any more. It's like, she rarely ever comes to visit us, hardly calls, and is not paying child support for my sis, and even on those rare ocations when she is here, she really isn't. Hence the whole disappearing thing. She's here with us physically, but mentally, she changed drastically towards us, and she doesn't treat us like a mother should treat her kids. So, whenever "Home" comes on, I turn it up loud, and belt out the lyrics...She doesn't know that it's her song, but my Sis and I do... MaggieMichelle
