MILF Island, he spends the entire episode stuck in a vending machine

u/appdump avatar

Him calling his own desk is one of my favorite moments of the show. Hearing him scream over voicemail—just perfect.

u/Max1234567890123 avatar
Edited

When he kisses his wedding ring for that final throw… brilliant.

“Hi you’ve reached Pete Hornberger at 30 Rock, please leave…” (muffled existential scream)

I just have to get anyone!

Edited

Same bit, though a bit earlier when, despite his trapped hand, he miraculously wriggles completely out of his sweatshirt. When he suddenly realizes that feat was physically impossible, his double-take is the absolute best in the entire series - a priceless Pete moment!

"Who doesn't love Soy Joy?!"

The fact that Soy Joy no longer exists makes that episode even funnier

u/FairBlackberry7870 avatar

I thought it was a fake food item like Cheesy Blasters and the joke was that Soy Joy sounds disgusting and he got stuck in the machine over something that's not even very good.

u/Capnshiner avatar

I rember getting one free as a sample back around the time this aired. It was a bland, slightly spongy food log. It tasted more like a ration than a snack.

Blind date when he bets his wedding ring and later says “I still had money” always kills me

While not a Pete line, Kenneth’s description of him being busy “laying in his own sick” sends me every time.

I like his “hornburger!” Best when he gets the Per dium for gas after getting Kenneth to take the floor safety officer job. I forget what season and episode but I know it’s the one with Steve Martin playing Gavin valure.

Episode Title, Gavin Volure. S03E04.

This comment was unnecessarily funny to me

Yes...Hornberger

My fiance and I say Yesss... Hornberger! any time something goes our way!

u/ramsaybaker avatar

He briefly made *such an enemy then…

More replies

I love his "Hornberger!" as well because he gets Jack to give him like five cents more per diem. The equivalent of a few bucks a month/year raise and Pete celebrates like he struck it rich.

u/rippletroopers avatar

I know! That’s the best part, it’s like nothing!

And Jack's just pure disgust for him when he goes "yes...Hornberger". Perfect delivery

My wife and I trade "YES! Hornberger!" and "....yes......Hornberger...." back and forth every now and then when something extremely fractionally nice happens.

Example: taking dishes out of the dishwasher into the cupboard...I nearly drop a cup, fumble it once or twice, but catch it so it doesn't drop..... "YES! HORNBERGER!" and response......

I honestly started rewatching the show just to find that scene. The look Jack gives him is priceless

That's gotta be 10, 15 feet

S6E16 Nothing Left to Lose

“Your evaluation gave me pause”

“Are you sure? Those look like hands to me!”

This whole episode is amazing. His fight with the training dummy where he submits to its strength, the birthmark under his fringe that looks like a swastika made of penises. Gold.

u/rippletroopers avatar

“Please just leave”

u/notagangsta avatar

Why are you kissing it!??!

When he has the wig on and demands the crowd to move for Kenneth

WHO IS THIS LEADER OF MEN?!

You know… I used to be VERY rich.

I like those rare occasions where Pete is competent. So I'd add S2E4, "Rosemary's Baby" where Kenneth and Donny are participating in a high-stakes "Page-Off." Pete comes in, exasperated, and tells them to all get back to work and for Donny to give Kenneth a new jacket.

Then again, I also like resignedly-humiliated Pete, like in "Greenzo," when he has to ask Liz if she would come in and catch he and Paula having sex ("so much hair!") in her apartment ... again.

What do you do with the pop tart?

u/ghostdogtheconquerer avatar

I love his downtrodden "don't ask" when Liz passes him in the doorway to Jack's office

I know he was wearing that wig as a joke, but it made him look younger and more confident, and I think he should have considered it.

S01E07- Tracy Does Conan- Pete wears a wig at Jack’s insistence “Let him through!”

S02E11- MILF Island- Pete gets stuck in a vending machine “Any… random… number!”

S02E15- Cooter- Pete shoots Donny with an arrow “Run Kenneth, Run!”

S03E04- Gavin Volure- Pete successfully negotiates with Jack “Yes, Hornberger!”

S03E19- The Ones- (credit u/dwthesavage )Pete attempts to diagnose Jenna after her scheme to poison Kenneth to see the paramedic again- “Thank god, sociopath downgraded to extreme narcissist!”

S04E01- Season Four- Pete and Liz search for a new comedian to star on TGS- honorable mention for Paula Pell’s “what our children call ‘Big Wed Cah’”

S04E16- Floyd- not much Pete but a banger of a line (credit u/ageandtype ) in response to Jenna and Tracy trying to kill Kenneth to escape their erotic dreams “This is way too early for this guys, I haven’t even had my first cup of wine today,” also the ending when Kenneth dances for him

S04E19- Argus- Pete tries a new nickname “Pete Hornberger… but you can call me Dallas this could be the start of something for me

S05E02- When It Rains, It Pours- tbh very little Pete, but one of my favorite Pete lines “Neighbors who wear my exact size don’t die every day!”

S05E08- College- Pete hangs with Jack after a long day at work with some brews and his guitar to play the beginning of Aqualung “Let’s talk about everything… and nothing”

S05E15- It’s Never Too Late For Now- Pete and Frank start a band “Sound Mound rocks the town!”

S05E19- I Heart Connecticut- Pete has an extended arm wrestling fantasy “By the transitive property, you just defeated Muammar Qaddafi in arm wrestling” also chooses take-out from Hooters for lunch “we’ll know they touched it!”

S05E21(kinda)- 100 pt.2- (credit u/Bing_Bong_the_Archer ) post gas-leak medical exam “Well a very very hevay uh hevay du…bertation tonight we had a very darse-.. dareson”

S06E10- Alexis Goodlooking and the Case of the Missing Whiskey- (credit u/Jellyfish1297 ) Pete’s special whiskey goes missing and he tells the story about his cousin seeing Phil Donahue at a mall - “and Phil Donahue’s walking past Cinnabon! And he’s making eye contact with me!”

S06E15- The Shower Principle- Pete tries a new nickname (again)- “But I just bought a letterman jacket with ‘The Germ’ on it!” also “Oh my god! My cousin Carl crashed his car! And now he’s in a coma at the Kendall Clinic”

S06E16- Nothing Left to Lose- Pete flunks his self-evaluation and Jack attempts to improve him “I’m submitting to its power, it’s the alpha!”

S07E04- Unwindulax- Pete is assimilated into Crabcatcher culture “It’s Panama now”

Just collecting some of the other comments in an easy to read/find format and added some of my own, will continue to edit and update as they come to me lol, I’m trying to find the episode where Kenneth is annoying him by coming in early and interrupting his “me time” but having trouble

Paula Pell is a gem. I love her.

u/alaninsitges avatar

I really, really hope you're watching Girls5Eva then, because she is finally getting her chance to shine.

She's also great in AP Bio.

You can't forget the series finale, where he spends the whole episode setting up his attempt to fake his death and then the tag at the end where Paula and the kids find him in North Carolina

I can't thank you enough for your hard work.

This guy just produced your edit

My cousin Carl crashed his car!!! I think about this like every time I hear over pronounced k sounds in a comedy - can’t use those cheap psych tricks for giggles!

The arm wrestling subplot is my pick

u/RideWithMeTomorrow avatar

I often reference the “Dallas” bit when trying something new.

I like any episode where he expresses genuine fear of his family.

Little Evelyn is so sexual

There’s is also, "that creepy little one who's always rubbing himself on the carpet". Kyle is so strong.

Alexis goodlooking and the case of the missing whiskey

“And Phil donahue’s walking past Cinnabon! And he’s making eye contact with me…”

It always cracks me up that a producer at NBC who interacts with two supposed movie stars on a regular basis, as well as dozens of other celebrities in the building, would be that excited about a brush with Phil Donahue.

Pete is dreading something (I forget what) and fake shoots himself in the head with his finger gun… Kenneth freaks out and starts screaming…

Pete: “it’s not real!!!!”

I haven’t even had my first cup of wine today!

Cooter. When Pete calls Jimmy Carter a peanut farmer, I die every time!

I love his face when Liz says “no, Pete, that’s later. We might be dead by then”

This is one of the best lines in the whole series.

u/ghostdogtheconquerer avatar

Ah, that'd be great.

I cannot tell you how often that interaction pops into my head when I'm at work.

The episode where Jenna keeps trying to poison Kenneth so she can stage another run with the cute paramedic.

Specifically the scene where she comes into Pete’s office whining and he asks her, do you know the test to identify that someone is a sociopath, always kills me!

That's right! Ohhhh boy...

The Valentines Day episode where he says that Paula is having dinner with her tennis instructor and Liz and Jenna look at him with pity and he kind of shrugs.

When he shows Liz how he put a thumbtack in his neck just to feel something.
