About
Bran Castle is one of the most famous landmarks in Transylvania, and is known as the home of Count Dracula. The 14th-century hillside castle and fortress, however, actually houses a collection of furniture and artworks that once belonged to Marie, Romania’s last queen. Tour the eerie castle—including the infamous torture room—and decide for yourself what's fact or fiction. Located about 120 miles away from Bucharest, the castle and Transylvania are a great day trip from the capital, especially for lovers of medieval history and vampires. While you're there, don’t forget to get a few spooky souvenirs from the gift shops at the castle's entrance. – Tripadvisor

    Visit of a life time
I didnt go here because I like Dracula, this is only a small part og this castles history, I went to see the craftsmanship though the ages and to earn its history and I was not disappointed, from the wood work the the stone craft, this castle is truly beautiful. The views from the windows are amazing. I took photos of the write ups to read later as there was just so many. It looses a point for the extra charges to see areas that are not that big and you have to pay for extra tours, there seems to be no other access to the wine cellar. Note that with my health you climb and climb (but that is the nature of the building).

    Got to see it
This is an impressive castle. Dracula was a fiction story and did not live here, but the castle resembles the one described in the book so the area has marketed that idea. There is also a tie to Vlad the impaler who ruled the area and inspired the book some, but he was never here either. The castle is worth the trip and is one to see. There is a moderate walk up on cobblestones to get to the castle and some stairs in the castle.

    interesting but a little disappointing
we took a day trip from bucharest and we thought the castle/fortress was interesting but not amazing- and it definitely doesn't have anything to do with dracula. there was a line to get in (we went in august), and there were a lot of tour groups and each tour guide wanted to stop to talk in every other room. the things you see in each room are interesting as is the story of the fortress. be aware that there are a fair amount of stairs and some narrow passages. at the foot of the hill is a market with mostly souvenirs, leave some time for shopping.

    Busy but worth a visit
Having read how busy this place can get, we bought our tickets on line and arrived just before the castle opened to try and beat the big crowds. Some passages are narrow, there are a good few stairs and it does get busy in places. We had also tickets for the (5) torture rooms which showed an interesting, albeit gruelling, collection of various torture devices; this section was far less busy than the rest of the castle.

Like a real life Disney castle
This place was less like Dracula’s castle and more like living in real life Disney! Absolutely loved visiting Bran Castle. It was stunning and very interesting. Reasonably priced and would definitely recommend to friends and family. The only thing that let it down was the traffic from our hotel there and back. The journey should have taken 1.5 hrs and it took closer to 3 hrs each way so bare this in mind.

    Extremely crowded!
The castle is beautiful but... The visit is as pleasant as a subway trip at rush hour. You can't stop to examine an exhibit longer or take a picture without being pushed from behind by the flow of visitors. Solutions for decongestion would be: to get in into groups of 20-30 people, at intervals of 5-10 minutes; guided tours, at 10-minute intervals; visits scheduled online, with time slot, etc. But all this would mean a decrease in the number of tickets sold. And they don't want to lose money... The visit, without the time spent standing in line, takes less than an hour. The time tunnel has nothing amazing/out of the ordinary or really spectacular, it's not really worth the extra price paid. The room of torture instruments is interesting.

    BOOK IN ADVANCE
It is a nice castle, quite small, with some calm external green space nearby. Seen as we had booked tickets for the castle online, we didn’t have to wait in the ridiculously long queue: if you are thinking of visiting, DEFINITELY book in advance. However, inside it was completely packed full of visitors and there was not much space to move, seen as everyone moved together and slowly.

    Nice, but overrated (and overpriced)
Bran Castle was one the things I was looking forward to during my Transylvanian trip, but I have to say, I felt disappointed. As a person who visited quite a few castles and châteaux across Europe, this one belongs to bottom half of the list. For 60 Lei (12€) u get 40 minutes self guided tour, where u can see very little information on text board about the castle or people who lived in it. Castle in general is good looking but really small, so there is not much places to sit down for a minute and enjoy the atmosphere. I recommend coming during off season (not in summer) because place can be pretty crowded.

    Difficult to access
We drove to the area near the castle and it was difficult to see what you are supposed to do in terms of parking. There were road works on the main road near the access. The town needs more signage for people who are not on a coach trip and there needs to be designated parking with a shuttle bus if possible.

Over hyped but still worth a visit
This is a castle to visit to say you have been there and seen it, even though the story behind Dracula is false. It is a small and poking castle and will not take long to go around. It is nice but the hype that goes with it the real reason most people visit

As soon as we entered the castle we were squashed into a small room and pushed around by other visitors all trying to read the same information on the wall. Eventually I gave up and moved on after a tour guide just stood right in front of me completely oblivious to my presence.
The castle is a collection of small rooms up and down little staircases making it feel cramped and busy queues form at the top and bottom of the stairs with people trying to pass. Some of the rooms are roped off and you can only look at them through the doorway. There is very little interaction at the castle and not worth paying to go inside. The best it is the view of the iconic castle from the bottom of the hill.

We visited as part of an organised tour in August 2022. The town was quite busy and we’d been advised by our guide to book our tickets online the same day (on the drive there) so that we could skip the queue for the ticket office. Really glad we did that as the queue was quite long when we got there mid afternoon.

Once you’re inside, there are gardens and a large pond at the foot of the castle, as well as a cafe and shops. You head up a steep-ish ramp and then queue to go inside. You can’t skip this queue as we learned. They then scan the QR code from your online ticket.

Inside are displays in English and Romanian about the history of the castle itself. Learning about Marie, the Queen who united Romania was interesting. There were also displays about Bram Stoker and Dracula too but the castle doesn’t really have any link to the story, nor to Vlad the Impaler as the info guides tell you.

It was quite busy so we did have to queue to get around and read some of the displays etc. We also added the torture room as an added extra and it was worth the relatively cheap price but is similar to other torture exhibits at other castles around the world, so something to consider. The reviews for the elevator / lift were not positive so none of us chose to do that.

There were people still queuing to enter when we left at 5.15ish and the castle closes at 6 in the summer.

Overall an interesting stop but be prepared for crowds / queues unless you book online.

The castle itself is impressive, and there's a lot of things to see and learn about Romanian history there.

However, I would not recommend anyone to go to Bran castle at this point: Of all the places we visited during our trip, this place by far takes covid and social distancing the least serious. They put up signs about 2 meters distance, but at the same time the staff cram so many people into one room that it's impossible to keep even half a metre distance. They also did not follow up on people walking around with the masks not covering their faces. I'm very disappointed in their approach to the current situation, and would recommend you to go visit places like Peleș etc. instead and leave Bran for a time without pandemics.

A great place to visit, we got to see plenty of the Romanian countryside and then had a very informative but relaxed personal tour of the castle, inside we also had a cheese and wine tasting session, just my wife and myself, our driver and guide for the day ( Daniel) was very knowledgable and interesting.
After Brans castle we visited the old part of the city of Brasov, we had lunch and chose a traditional soup in a bread bowl, and a dish of bolz, both lively and washed down with wine, to walk off the excess, Daniel gave us a comprehensive tour of the old city.
On the way back we got to see the whole of Bucharest at night and the millions of Christmas lights adorning the streets and buildings, on the whole an excellent trip and one not to be missed

We were two adults and a 6y/o.
The castle is very big, with clear signs that tell you where to go. In the castle there were two actors who played vlad and his wife, our kid loved them!
It was very interesting to see the different parts of the castle.
Inside there is a time tunnel, you have to add payment to get into it. Inside there are some interactive multimedia screens with music, and it is very short. The kid liked it, but in my opinion it is a quite expensive tourists trap.
Altogether it was a good experience, around three hours including lunch.

When in Transylvania….. your trip will no doubt include the popular Bran Castle. It was a disappointment, inside & out. Those dark, moody & mystical photos we’ve all seen flatter it somewhat. It is located within a pleasant enough, low rise village (Bran) which offers plentiful restaurants, hotels & tat/craft shops. The interior is laughably cheesy & unauthentic, the Dracula link highly tenuous. You can pay extra to visit the Torture Museum, which was the highlight, & the ‘Time Tunnel’ which is basically an elevator & tunnel with special effects, I can imagine this would appeal to kids, but just added further to the comedy of it all for me.

I'm originally from Brașov and wanted to show my girlfriend the famous Dracula's castle. I've visited a few times over the past years and i was genuinely impressed on what they've made of it. Very well organised, very well cared for and in spite of the high number of tourists, we didn't feel constrained. Great exposeés of the former romanian royal family with their authentic chambers, Wall projections of romanian folcloric legends (some of which, even I must admit, I had no idea existed), a European museum of torture (for an extra fee of 2 euro), and one more 'time tunnel' that looked very promising, but we did not get a chance to see. A great part of romanian history genuinely worth visiting. Souvenir shops obviously extortionate, but you dont really buy 25 tshirts at once so not a bother.

Have been to Bran before but it's been a while. Traveled from Brasov to Bran. We are a little adventurous so we took the city bus to altex and then took the other bus to Bran. Going and coming back was a total of $20 compared to a taxi of over $30 each way but you need to be a little adventurous to do this.
Bran is a cool little city and very touristy , which I don't mind. Tons of little stands all round selling souvenirs, and I must say they are priced decently. The line to buy tickets can be long and take a little so I suggest buying online and skipping that line. We got on wifi right there and bought the tickets and saved at least 30 minutes. Got to the top and no line to get in. The entrance is up a set of stairs, which isn't marked too well that it's the entrance.
Inside they do a good job with lots of pictures, costumes , clothing, etc.. to give an idea of life back then. Appreciated all the history. So many picture opportunities. Afterwards we walked around the grounds and got some great shots of the whole castle. While it's a touristy place, it is well worth it and you can really appreciate the history and architecture. There is quite a bit of walking so be prepared but it isn't too bad.

Our second stop of our tour was Bran Castle, better known as Castle Dracula. Visiting this national landmark was higher up on our bucket list. This fortress is nicely tucked away in the Carpathian Mountains. A former occupant of this castle was Vlad Tepes, better known Vlad The Impaler. Our tour guide never said whether or not he liked the name his enemies bestowed upon him. Either way, he certainly earned the nickname with his proclivities to impale his enemies, whether it’s men, women, or children. It didn’t matter if they were still living or not. Interior of the castle is nicely preserved. Most of the furniture and artwork were donated by Queen Marie, wife of King Ferdinand I. Pictures are allowed to be taken unless otherwise stated. After you’re done visiting the castle, be sure to visit the town of Braşov. It’s a charming little Romanian town about 25 km away.

The castle is one of the most visited places in Romania. Sometimes may be crowded but they manage to do it in a very elegant way. Tours are self guided now for safety reasons. I like how staff managed to keep masks on reluctant visitors and that made me feel safe. The place has every time a new exhibition or attraction added so even a multi returning visitor as I am finds new staff to see. The torture exhibition is a bit creepy for me but I have noticed many fans in awe… it’s so called the Dracula’s place… a lot of history there and a lot of Romanian traditions revealed in a very intelligent way for all ages. The time tunnel elevator was great, the surroundings well manicured and the staff amazing. Chapeau.
