alt=Herb ScribnerOne of the most recognizable songs in history, “Hallelujah,” just got one heck of a makeover — with Christmas lights and decorations.
It’s been out for a year now, but Cloverton’s cover of “Halleujah” — decorated and done with lyrics on Jesus Christ and his birth, which is celebrated at Christmastime — is making its way across the Internet this holiday season.
The lyrics combine the original words penned by Leonard Cohen and the story of Jesus' birth from the Bible.
“I've heard about this baby boy/Who's come to earth to bring us joy/And I just want to sing this song to you,” go the new lyrics.
Another line speaks of the shepherds who traveled to the manger to see the Son of God born.
“The shepherds left their flocks by night/ To see this baby wrapped in light/A host of angels led them all to You/It was just as the angels said/You'll find Him in a manger bed/Immanuel and Savior, Hallelujah,” the lyrics go.
It’s not too surprising “Hallelujah” now has a holiday twist, since the song has been taken on by many artists over the years. According to The Atlantic, “Hallelujah” was a sub-par song by Leonard Cohen, the original singer of the song, that has morphed into a highly popular cover song by several artists, including Jeff Buckley, Imogen Heap and Rufus Wainwright, whose version was made famous in the animated film, “Shrek.”
