Welcome to the Winnipeg Free Press‘s weekly newsletter, Passages.
My name is Kevin Rollason and I’ve been a reporter at the Free Press for more than three decades. For about half of those years I’ve read every obituary published in the Free Press, looking for possible stories of prominent people who have died — and also, in the last couple of years, looking for people we could profile in our weekly feature A Life’s Story.
When a prominent person dies — whether it is a former premier, the founder of a notable business, or a famed musician — we usually write a story about their passing. But many more Manitobans have led interesting lives.
A Life’s Story runs weekly, but there are only 52 weeks of the year and far more stories about the lives of Manitobans. Through this newsletter, I hope I can provide a glimpse of more of those lives.
Each person mentioned here helped make Winnipeg and Manitoba the great places they are today.
I hope you enjoy reading about them. If you do, sign up here to get this newsletter in your inbox every Sunday.
