Scott Pilgrim Takes Off co-creator discusses the series' binge-streaming release model on Netflix. Simply put, he calls it the "dumbest shit ever."

In an April 10 X thread, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off creator BenDavid Grabinski stated that the entire season of the series being released at once is "the dumbest shit ever." Grabinski also noted, "There's literally no upside" to the model before opining, "Imagine if the whole season of X-Men '97 was out!!!!!"

Based on Bryan Lee O'Malley's hit Scott Pilgrim series of graphic novels, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off reunites the cast of the 2010 live-action Scott Pilgrim vs. the World feature film to voice their respective characters. Rather than following the storyline of the comics or film, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off introduces a new storyline that sees the titular character, voiced by Michael Cera, disappear within the first episode. This kicks off a search led by Mary Elizabeth Winstead's Ramona Flowers, all while the rest of the series' core cast develop their own adaptation of Scott's story.

Scott Pilgrim Was Resurrected at Netflix

In February 2024, Winstead opened up about returning to the role of Ramona Flowers, calling the experience "cathartic." Winstead added that "the whole experience was meta on pretty much every level, both on a story perspective and a personal perspective." Winstead continued, "It was really poignant and emotional to get to explore it all the way through to the end, to where it gets to for all the characters."

On the subject of the series' long development time, Grabinski previously stated that "Anything getting made is a miracle. I have had so many things that were about to get made and they just fell apart for the dumbest reasons. You have to make peace with it." Grabinski went on to say that he and O'Malley "aimed very high... Somehow that all worked out. I am not going to even try to make sense of it."
