Story highlights

Owen Wilson was cast in a prime role in OJ Simpson film titled The Juice. He was roped in to play attorney Douglas McCann.

Owen Wilson is clear about which side of history he wants to be. A new report claims that the Hollywood star turned down an offer to star in a film that represents OJ Simpson as innocent in the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman. The movie is titled The Juice and Owen said no to $12 million when he passed up on the offer.

The film stars Charlotte Kirk as Brown and Boris Kodjoe as Simpson. The Juice is described as a "satirical thriller," and tells the story of the real-life attorney Douglas McCann, who represented OJ Simpson in a civil case in 2000.

This is why Owen Wilson gave up on the role

Even though the role has been taken over by someone else, director Joshua Newton told The Hollywood Reporter that he met Owen Wilson to discuss the film. He said, "Owen Wilson was perfect for the role. I actually had a meeting with him in Santa Monica. Everybody loved the script. His agent wanted him to do it. We offered him $12 million. But at the end of the lunch, Owen stood up and said, 'If you think I'm going to take the lead role in a movie about how O.J. didn't do it, you've got to be kidding me.'"

The filming of the movie is almost complete and Newton added that they aim to finish it by early October. Even though Owen Wilson passed up on the offer, Newton revealed that they have succeeded in replacing him with a “spot-on” actor.

What happened to OJ Simpson?

The fallen star OJ Simpson died in early April. In 1995, he was acquitted in the killings of both Brown and Goldman. The trial was in the public eye with live TV programmes following every move in the case. In 1997, a jury in civil court found that he was liable for "willfully and wrongfully" causing the deaths of Brown and Goldman, ordering him to pay $33.5 million to their families.
