I chose to stay at the Manila Hotel for my quarantine stay which is required by the Philippine government upon my arrival from the US. Obviously, this new requirement is quite nerve racking with the thought that I have to be confined in a single space for almost a week, but I’m relieved I chose the Manila Hotel. First off, their reservation service is very responsive with the numerous emails I sent. I chose to include an airport transfer with my reservation and I was picked up right away from the airport. I felt safe as a female traveling alone. Their personnel are in uniform bearing the hotel’s name so I’m assured that it’s not some random person picking me up. My request for dinner to be served on my arrival was done. I was given a suite upgrade which is a plus!…I didn’t feel claustrophobic even if I’m confined in my room for 6 days and I have a beautiful view of the Manila Bay sunset each night. I’m given a menu so food is not redundant each day and I’m given a choice of what to eat everyday. Their quarantine food serving is also abundant. Yes, their rooms need upgrades considering how old the hotel is. And internet is slow that it is hard to complete a Netflix movie. But overall, I’m satisfied with my stay and I hope to stay with them next time in a much better circumstances.

Stayed here overnight with my sister for a staycation, being locked down for more than two years due to the pandemic, I really looked forward to it. Plus it would be nice to be back to where I took my oath taking 15 years ago at the Centennial Hall. The lobby looked grand as it has always been. But the moment I stepped inside our room on the 12th floor, the rundown flooring of the shower room (looked like black grime was all over) immediately caught my attention. Plus the bath tub stinks. The hotel is over a hundred years old, but issues like these requires due attention. The floor carpet also looked dusty, and there was a pill under the arm chair, which to me means there was no thorough cleaning. Bottled water was overpriced, 10 times of what it's worth at a convenience store. I am supposed to use the flatiron in the morning but had second thoughts when I saw an exposed copper wire. Soundproofing was also poor. Breakfast at Cafe Ilang Ilang was ordinary, there was no crowd control, and there was a smell of kitchen towel that was not washed and dried properly.In addition I felt like there was a caste system at Cafe Ilang Ilang, where the elite looking guests get the best space, while we were assigned to a corner table where diners almost collide while in queue. I am not sure but maybe your place at the cafe depends on your room category. I already stayed in three to five star hotels here and abroad and this is the first time I got disappointed. At the check-in counter some guests cut in and don't have manners and to my surprise the front desk allows it. Seriously, the management should look into these issues and it would be nice if the hotel undergo a major renovation. If anything, I am just glad my sister enjoyed the grand lobby and their Willy the Bear mascot. All in all, I felt like I did not get value for what I spent.

The atmosphere of the hotel is great, classic interior and classic rooms.
Staff is overall friendly and attentive. The room was clean and daily cleaning good.
The elevators are fast.
Unfortunately the windows in the guest rooms can’t be opened for some fresh air.
Location is great with Intramuros on walking distance of around 15 minutes and MOA and the airport only 15-20 minutes by taxi if there is no rush hour.
We found some improvements, one is the breakfast buffet which has basically no variety. It gets boring after a week. Besides this, the hot food like fried tomatoes, scrambled eggs or hash browns was not warm at all.
Finally, as a western man with a Dutch-Filipina wife we both noted that staff were friendly and polite towards me but often ignored my wife….

Thanks God we only used their Lobby Lounge for lunch.. Based on thst experience, I can't imagine how bad the rooms are. Actually, suffice reading the answers of the "management" to the guests comments to know this place benefits from No Management. Reminded us of those would-be 5*star hotels one found in Eastern Europe in the 1970's.
But back to our experience:
*a menu that features no Filipino dishes: nothing but a list a boring Western dishes that make no sense one with another
*an army of waiters unable to announce, 25mn affter the order was taken, that the draft beer ordered was not available
*a pot of tea served with no sugar, cream or lemon (waiteress didn't even ask)
*the tea served was a shameful bag of Twinning. In a 5 star hotel...
* the food was unedible: rubbery samosas with barely any filling and disgusting shawarma fiilled with what looked like a Chicken purée.
Beside that, the wooden ceiling is beautiful

When we checked in our room, we saw a lot of dirt and may natira pang hair sa bedsheet. So disgusting!

Breakfast buffet is not good. There’s no shuttle service available which disappoints me even more although there’s a welcome letter that was written that the hotel provide a shuttle service in nearby malls and tourist spots.

Recently stayed here for a week. We were picked up by Manila hotel car on time but traffic heavy. Check in was easy, professionally handled by JM, who was also kind enough to help us with taxis and local Uber. Breakfast was great, with local food like arroz caldo (rice chicken porridge, you can add chopped eggs, green onions-what a treat); champorado (chocolate flavoured porridge) garlic fried rice, fried bangus and another fish, usual sausage eggs, bacon, one day they had corned beef, some dimsum variety (cold too bad) , some noodle, chicken dishes,local bread pan de sal, danishes, cheese rolls, pancakes and waffles. Coffee was great, not hot enough, juices, no Mango juice unfortunately. Chef Fernando was great on the buffet station explained everything and knew we wanted food hot. Service was great if you tipped everyday, even though service charge was already included. Servers seemed to hover over several tables, fawning and waning, but noticed at the end these tables gave extra tips which was fine.
Room was modern, upgraded one facing Intramuros, usual amenities, toilet tank always hard to flush even though we asked them to fix it several times.
Manila Hotel is known for Bibingka-local rice cake sometimes made with white cheese. On the dinner buffet not was cold there. We had to go to the lobby wait 20minutes to really get the bibingka this hotel is renowned for and they did not disappoint. We got invited to dinner buffet here, they were full !! Variety galore, Japanese corner had sushi, fresh tempura, Japanese rice and rolls; cooked crab and shrimp (cold) you have to ask them to make a fresh one so shrimp is easier to peel and crabs already half cut, easy and very tasty. Indian food, filipino food, salads,too much but great. Dessert table was hit miss, lemon was old, bumbong was terrible, bibingka was stale, ice cream was gelato, puto- so so. Overall I would stay here again for the local food. Covid guidelines were done and security was great.

I have always wanted to stay at this historical hotel, and finally my husband and I were able to do it in November 2019. We stayed for 7 nights and still wished we could have stayed longer. I would say that the hotel is well preserved and maintained, considering that it’s already more than a century old. It has a great location as it is very close to Intramuros, Manila Ocean Park and National Museum.

This hotel hosted hundreds of delegates from different countries in November. We personally witnessed how hospitable the staff were and how they looked after the guests really well.

I always looked forward to the breakfast buffet. They have a big variety of food selection. I probably gained a few extra pounds after our one-week stay.

Highly recommended and will definitely stay again.

I spent 2 nights in Manila with my kid before our trip back home after a longer family trip in Asia. I chose this hotel as it was the only 5 star near to Intramuros, which is the area where you have most historial sites in the city.
As we arrived very late in the night I booked the hotel shuttle, which is 3-4 times more expensive than an standard taxi (32 EUR vs 8-10), but being in a new city so late I thought it was best option. Our flight arrived 20 minutes earlier than expected, so finally we had to wait almost 10 minutes to pick us up (they should have checked flight status online). If you come in a big group is a good option as you may not find a van at airport. To go back to airport I used Grab.
When we arrived it took me some minutes to convince the receptionists that I could use my VISA card for the deposit instead of paying cash. It looks lack of training.
Room is big with view to harbour or city. The decoration is classical in all building and afternoons and nights there are piano players and music shows. Staff was friendly.
Breakfast has many international food options, but unlike other hotels you have to wait to be served by employees instead of picking up your food, which makes process slowly and unpractical.
The main reason for my low score is that I had a big plastic bag with medicines in case of potential sickness for adult & kids (stomach, diarrea, sore throat, bad cold, mosquito bites, covid tests, ..) as also additional face and sun cream, a big infrared thermometer, a toothbrush charger, ... and as I left it on the floor in the toilet, housekeeping threw everything. I cannot understand how this can happen as with a simple inspection and common sense it is clear it is not garbage. I commented to reception and manager and when leaving hotel they provided small package with medicines, but it does not over all the items lost (probably around 150 USD) and no compensation was offered.
Overall the hotel is a good option if you want to be near old city as a taxi takes you there in 5-10 minutes instead of one hour from Makati or Bonifacio City due to crazy traffic.

His historic place has applied to be included in UNESCO protected sites and one look at the majestic lobby (and facade) will quickly explain why. The place, I discovered, is very popular with Philipinos (for covid restrictions there were hardly any foreigners) and Xmas decorations were out of thsi world. Rooms a greta, the staff incredible breakfast choice amazing, , a pastry shop with gerat choice and the souvenir shop is stocked with wonderful items surprisingly modestly prized for top notch quality/

My wife and I stayed 3 Days and 2 nights at this lovely historic hotel before our flight back home to the US. The hotel is located right off Roxas Blvd with many nearby attractions to include the Luneta park, ocean park and the walled city (Intramuros).

Very easy to catch a Grab taxi there is 24/7 security both roving and all luggage and personal bags also need to go under screening before check in. Check in was very smooth and efficient.

What we really liked was it that we asked the manager on duty during our stay if they are able to give us a tour for General MacArthur suite. Manager said yes and introduced us to our tour guide Irish (Trainee). We could tell she loves her job and high regards to her and to all the questions she answered with a smile. The whole staff is very friendly, helpful and accommodating. Kudos to Diane for helping us to book a grab during our stay.

We loved our Grand Deluxe Room which included a free breakfast buffet and is the perfect size for couples with Philippine traditional interior furniture design. The Wi-Fi was very strong and the TV had many channels to view. We used the Pool which was very clean and also included a pool side with mini bar

All in all, great value for the $95 nightly rate we got via Agoda, when back in Manila we will stay here again.
