Hot Coal
Description	Summon hot coal in your hands that increases walkspeed but must be deposited quickly or else! Hot coal can be passed between thieves by touching them.

Cole is an Epic thief. His active ability, Hot Coal, creates a hot coal that gives a speed boost to whoever holds it, however, damages the thief that holds it last if it is not rid of.

Ability Details

Upon activating Hot Coal, Cole holds a piece of coal in their hands above their head. The hot coal will glow brighter, emit more particles, and emit a faint whistling sound. After 15 seconds pass, the coal will explode.

While a thief is holding hot coal, they:

• Move four studs per second faster
• Cannot perform any action besides moving, jumping, or depositing
• Can get rid of the hot coal by depositing
• Can pass the hot coal to another thief by touching them
  • Thieves that are performing actions cannot receive hot coal
  • The thief that receives the coal will be notified that they must pass the coal to another thief or deposit it
  • Cannot pass coal to another thief within one second of receiving it
• Will take two hearts of damage when the coal explodes
  • A thief downed by this damage with no revives left will be given one revive, preventing them from being removed from the round
  • Only the thief holding the hot coal will take the damage, despite it being an explosion

Strategies

• To prevent another thief from stealing a specific item you are both near, use Hot Coal while standing inside of the target thief, then steal the item quickly.
  • Activating Hot Coal will instantly pass the coal to another thief while standing inside them, and the one second cooldown for passing coal is a window of opportunity to steal an item.
  • Be careful, as that thief with hot coal will be able to pass it back to you after you steal an item.
• Use Hot Coal when your bag is full to reach an exit and deposit quickly.
  • The penalty for holding hot coal does not matter if the only goal is to reach an exit and deposit, as hot coal does not prevent depositing and increases walkspeed.
  • Be careful not to become trapped by characters like Roadblock or Incinerator, as the damage from Hot Coal may down you if not deposited in time.
• While you have hot coal in your hands, distract cameras, or pass it on to another thief to have them distract cameras.
  • Thieves hold hot coal above their heads, the coal is very visible, somewhat audible, and move faster while holding it, making them a very noticeable target for cameras to zap.
  • Be careful, as activating abilities is disabled while holding hot coal.
• If you are on your last revive and have less than 50% of your max health, down yourself in a safe place near another thief to be revived by.
  • Hot Coal will not remove a thief from the round if they are downed to it, and being revived heals you to 50% of your max health, and gives the reviving thief more money.
• To effectively damage other thieves with your hot coal, hold the hot coal and chase down other thieves without passing it until the coal is about to explode, which then you have to pass to the other thieves.
  • The hot coal explodes when the ability cooldown timer reads 30, so pass the hot coal just a few seconds before it explodes.
  • By doing this, the thief would not have enough time to pass the coal back to you or deposit it.
  • Be careful, as the thief may pass it back to you or perform an action to prevent them from getting the hot coal.

• Cole's name is a homophone to the word coal.
• Cole's working title during development was The Coal Man, which is referenced in the final description.
  • This is a reference to a real life folklore, where misbehaving children would receive coal from Santa on Christmas.
