This year’s Festival of Music line-up is revealed

The line-up of the 14th annual Festival of Music was unveiled last week at the Snape Spring Concert, with this year’s event including the first ever Blues, Boogie and Swing Special.

On Friday 4 October, there will be two events in the development of the Festival of Music to look forward to. From 4:30 to 5:30pm, the Guitar Masterclass takes place in the Great School Concert Hall, with renowned jazz guitarist Denny Ilett sharing his vast expertise. This exclusive event lets jazz guitarists refine their craft and learn from a master of the genre. Tickets are £10 for all.

The second event, taking place that same evening, is the Blues, Boogie and Swing Special, which starts at 7:30pm. This will feature two saxophonists from Jools Holland & Blues Orchestra – Derek Nash and Anna Brooks as well as other famous jazz names, including one of our school visiting music teachers George Double on drums. We hope you will enjoy the great party atmosphere with lots of laughs and happy dancing. The tickets are £8 for under 18 year olds and £20 for adults.

The following weekend sees a number of Old Ipswichians return to school to perform in the OI Gala Concert, starting at 7pm on Sunday 13 October. Orchestral, choral and jazz music will all feature in the concert, where current students will play alongside Old Ipswichians, many of whom have gone on to have successful careers in many different genres of music. It is described as “the next generation of musical talent, hand in hand with the last one, in a concert celebrating music’s enduring legacy”. Secure your place for £20 or £8 for U18’s.

The excitement doesn’t stop there though, with the Festival of Music broadening its syllabus to a diverse range of events throughout the year, from captivating concerts to magical workshops, there will be something for everyone. So, make sure you keep your eyes peeled for more information on these
magnificent musical events.

Mrs Steensma, Director of Music and the Festival Director, said: “This is now our 14th year of the Festival of Music, and we are delighted to be having our traditional October concerts as well as extending festival events throughout the year. We would like to give our heartfelt thanks to Mr Karl Daniels, the sponsor of this year’s Festival of Music, for his support of music at Ipswich School, and we are very much looking forward to seeing our audiences enjoying themselves this autumn.”
