Summary

  • Almost the entire cast of Reacher season 2 is new, reflecting the anthology approach of adapting a new book each season.
  • Alan Ritchson returns as Jack Reacher, reuniting with Frances Neagley to investigate a murder.
  • The season introduces new characters, including Karla Dixon, David O'Donnell, A.M., and Shane Langston, played by Serinda Swan, Shaun Sipos, Ferdinand Kingsley, and Robert Patrick, respectively.

Reacher is back with season 2, and the cast looks a lot different compared to season 1's roster of stars. Almost the entire cast of the second season of the Amazon Prime Video show is made up of new actors (aside from two series regulars) as the story jumps ahead more than two years following the events of the season 1 finale. Whereas Reacher season 1 was based on Lee Child's Killing Floor, the first book in the Jack Reacher series, season 2 adapts the eleventh novel, Bad Luck and Trouble. As a result, the writers had to cut many characters from the first eight episodes to make room for new ones in the second season.

It seems the writers are taking the anthology route while developing the action thriller television series, meaning that each season will adapt a new book, and the cast will change often. Since Reacher season 2, which premiered on December 15, 2023, picks up two years, seven months, and 19 days after Jack Reacher left Margrave, viewers meet new characters in the first episode. The second season introduces the members of Reacher's 110th Special Investigations Unit (and a handful of other players).

Alan Ritchson As Jack Reacher

Of course, Reacher wouldn't be the same without the titular character, so Alan Ritchson returns as Jack Reacher in season 2. Following the traumatic events of the season 1 finale, Reacher has returned to his self-proclaimed hobo lifestyle in the new episodes but is pulled into another mystery when Calvin Franz, one of his US Army 110th MP Special Investigations Unit colleagues, is murdered. He reunites with Frances Neagley in New York, and together, they recruit other former members of the unit to investigate Franz's death.

Before starring as Reacher in the Amazon Prime Video series, Ritchson appeared in a handful of other shows and movies. He is known for his roles as Aquaman in Smallville, Hawk in Titans, Thad Castle in Blue Mountain State, and Raphael in 2014's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Additionally, Ritchson played Gloss, the District 1 male tribute, in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

Aside from Ritchson as Reacher, the only other cast member from Reacher season 1 who returns as a series regular in season 2 is Maria Sten as Frances Neagley, a corporate security professional. Neagley reaches out to Reacher after Franz's murder, and he immediately hops on the next plane to New York to help her with the case. Together, they reunite the 110th Special Investigations Unit, a significant team in the books. Fans might recognize Sten from television series such as Channel Zero: The Dream Door and Swamp Thing. The Danish actress also won Miss Denmark Universe in 2008 and wrote an episode of Big Sky.

Serinda Swan As Karla Dixon

Reacher season 2 introduces Serinda Swan as Karla Dixon, one of the members of Reacher's unit who is a forensic accountant in corporate risk management. She answers the call from Reacher and Neagley and helps them investigate Franz's death. From the get-go, it's obvious that Reacher and Dixon have chemistry that they never acted on (until episode 2), but only time will tell if their romance turns into something substantial in the second season. Before joining the cast of the action thriller series, Swan appeared in Chicago Fire, Inhumans, Ballers, Coroner, Smallville, Graceland, and many other television shows. She also starred in movies such as Redemption Day and Devotion.
