Breathtaking in its subtle beauty, Harvest is an achingly romantic tale of an innocent but ever increasingly passionate affair that develops between two simple farmhands. Life on a farm is all that sullen teen Marco knows- leading a perfunctory and quiet life of working, going to school and avoiding the advances of girls. However, his self-imposed solitude ends when curly-haired Jakob, rejecting the banking world for farming, arrives to train on the farm. Although initially cautious and tentative with each other, it is soon obvious that the unspoken sexual tension is becoming increasingly hard to resist - something a spontaneous trip to Berlin. Proving that true love can blossom in even the most unlikely of places, Harvest is as rich and rewarding as it is heart-warming.

The life of Marko, a lonely and introverted young man with a turbulent past, is at a crossroad; the routine and monotony he is used to soon changes with the arrival of Jacob, another boy with whom he gradually gets closer. Stadt Land Fluss is a film that unfolds in a natural manner while conveying the longing and anguish of adolescence with subtlety. It is a quiet story of two young men who are shaping their identity, and in search of themselves and their path in life.

In this beautiful little film the relationship between two teens on an agricultural complex south of Berlin develops so slowly and with a couple false starts that by the time they do kiss for real, take their shirts off and start laughing, you know exactly why they do. It's a very well-earned relief but not as much of one as the final shot, which seems like an echo of Hettie Macdonald's more upbeat Beautiful Thing. We don't get enough movies about loneliness really and what it feels like to finally make a connection.

Jakob (Kai-Michael Müller) has just left a banking apprenticeship to come to train on the farm. Ich war eigentlich schon auf den nächsten Verriss eingestellt, doch bin ich mehr als überrascht, was dieser Film dann doch kann.
Jacob (Kai Michael Müller) ist Azubi im letzten Lehrjahr auf einem Bauernhof, bis eines Tages Marko (Lukas Steltner) auftaucht, der als Praktikant dort anfängt. Beide kommen sich allmählich näher, aber insb. der eher wortkarge und introvertierte Jacob hat mit seinen neuen Gefühle arge Probleme.
Anfangs wusste ich nicht, ob es sich hierbei um eine Doku über die Ausbildung in der Landwirtschaft oder einem Coming-out-Film handelt. Und das ist so gewollt. There's a lot to bemoan about the state of LGBT movies. Not enough of them contain characters in normal situations who just happen to be LGBT. Instead, we get the same poor story over and over: someone is disowned; someone can't admit they're gay; someone is bullied; someone loses all their friends; someone attempts suicide. Those stories are authentic, but they're not very uplifting.
This wasn't one of those movies, but it is assuredly a boring, aptly-named movie about farming.
It took 55 minutes for something interesting to happen. It would probably make a great short film if they removed every scene that doesn't contain both the main characters in it, but that's the best recommendation I can give it. Too many scenes didn't drive the plot forward or help build up a better picture of the main characters, although the ones that did were okay.
