Rosario Pasquale Pugliese Sr., 87, a longtime resident of Stamford, passed suddenly on Sunday, June 6, 2021. Rosario was born in Arena, Italy on January 10, 1934, son of the late Francescantonio Pugliese and Francesca Francese Pugliese. Rosario was a master mason respectfully called “Maestro Rosario” by all who knew him. Family, friends, and loved ones affectionately called him “Rosy.” He immigrated with his wife to Stamford, Connecticut in 1966. His greatest love in life was spending time with his seven cherished grandchildren. His trademark in all his work was to carve a stone into the shape of a heart, a reflection of his great love for others and how much everyone loved him. Rosario is survived by his devoted wife of over 54 years Elisabetta Pugliese, their loving sons, Frank Pugliese and his girlfriend Curly Gustave, and, Rosario Pugliese Jr. and his wife Martha along with his seven beloved grandchildren, Elisabetta, Rosario III, Giuseppe, Francescantonio, Giovanni, Cristina, and Francesca. Rosario is also survived by his sisters, Olimpia Rosa Rettura, Lilliana Timpano, and Stella Pugliese, all in Italy. Besides his parents, Rosario is predeceased by his sister Maria Megale and his brother Antonio Pugliese. Family and friends may pay their respects at a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated on Friday, June 11, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at The Basilica of St. John the Evangelist, 279 Atlantic Street, Stamford, CT. Please park at the Bell Street parking garage. Those unable to attend may livestream the Mass at https://stjohnbasilica.org/livestream. A procession to Queen of Peace Cemetery, 124 Rock Rimmon Road, Stamford, CT, will follow Mass where a committal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rosario’s memory to the Institute of Christ the King at https://institute-christ-king.org/donations.
