About
The L.A. Zoo is currently open with a modified experience. Advance purchase of date-specific tickets is recommended for all general admission guests. The landmark L.A. Zoo is a world-class destination and one of the city’s top attractions. This lush oasis is home to thousands of animals – including one of the largest troops of chimpanzees in North America. Exhibit highlights include Rainforest of the Americas, which transports guests to a tropical rainforest that's home to piranhas, giant otters, harpy eagles, tapirs, and jaguars, and more. Other highlights include the massive Elephants of Asia habitat and the LAIR (Living Amphibians, Invertebrates, and Reptiles), where guests can view rare and endangered critters, many of which can be seen at no other zoo in the world. The Zoo funds and participates in wildlife conservation programs all over the world, which means that every ticket purchase helps protect endangered and vulnerable species.

    Nice weekday visit!
The Family loves visiting zoos and we had a great time at the LA Zoo. We have been about a dozen times but being we live in San Deigo we visit SD Zoo much more. The LA zoo is pretty big and has a lot of great exhibits. Usually LA Zoo is much busier but we went on a weekday and it wasn't too bad. A Few animals were not available to be seen as they were "Out to lunch" but we had a great time. the only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is that the park could use a little more maintenance for clean up. A Couple of the bathrooms weren't very kept up and some areas had much trash around. This is more of a human issue as people just can't seem to put their trash away correctly or clean up after themselves but other than that, the park was great! If you have the extra time, visit the small "Travel Town" just a couple miles past the park. It features a small museum and some trains. Really cool place to take the kids.

A very nice zoo - go see the bird show
We came to visit the zoo on a Thursday late morning. We thought the zoo was well laid out, but be prepared to do a lot of walking as the zoo area is very large. As you walk in, the first displays had meerkats and then flamingos which were both amazing. As we were walking a couple were walking by and asked if we were going to see the bird show that was starting very soon. We followed them and were treated to a nice display of various birds flying about over us and preforming tricks like catching items tossed on the air or on water. They had plenty of elephants and giraffes. The chimpanzees were entertaining with their animated antics. We though it was a good zoo and were plenty tired from the walking we did. We needed about 3 hours to see most of the park.

    Disappointment
This zoo despite being highly touted was a disappointment and wasn't worth the money. The animals were in all concrete areas or in crowded displays. While it is mobility scooter accessible, a regular wheelchair would have a hard time handling the hills there unless electric. Better to rent an electric one from the zoo which was reasonable in price and in good condition.

    A wonderful day out
Such a wonderful day out. We spent about four hours walking around, enjoying. I love that the zoo is set within a botanical garden, it just made it even more magical. Several displays were closed for renovations and some of the signage could have been a little clearer, but we had a fantastic time.

    Another zoo ticked off...
Zoo's are so our thing!! We always try to visit a zoo in every country or state we visit. It's essential for us humans to keep visiting to help the successful breeding programmes. We arrived when it was raining, which did have other guests running back to their cars. So it was very quiet which worked well for us. Plus we're British so we can cope with rain 🤣. The animals looked happy and healthy, a lot was happening in the day, as it was the day the Christmas the lights were going to open at night. They looked amazing, unfortunately we didn't have enough time to visit in the evening. There were some enclosures closed as work was being updated, I think. We spent several hours, especially by the chimpanzees, Tiger and Giraffes.

Great Zoo with lots to explore!
Our visit was on a weekday in February. The weather was wonderful but it was a tad cool. With that being said, a good number of animals were “off exhibit” and many of the zoo’s dining options/stores were closed all day. With that being said, we had a great visit! I try to visit as many zoos as possible and was glad to finally make it to LA Zoo. I didn’t realize how large and hilly the zoo would be but it made for an adventurous day. Much of the zoo feels a little older but we discovered some amazing animals in some of the enclosures that were hidden away. Tons of birds and tons of monkeys! I really enjoyed my visit and would recommend others to visit as well!

    No direct encounter
Zoo was OK, but nothing special and in some parts we felt sorry for animals. Elephants had a large walking area but other animals were not so lucky. Many animals were not visible - like tigers. And in the zoo they have the worst water refill stations - DO NOT TRY - it smells terrible!

    Great Day!
Prepare to walk! The large animals need more space, so sometimes lots of walking between animals, but I feel it was well worth it. Got some great photos, some were a little more shy & hard to see. A great half day adventure! Bought an Aquarium of the Pacific / LA Zoo combined ticket

    A nice outdoor family destination
Not a huge zoo, but because of that also a very manageable destination for a few hours with kids. My tweens loved it, and I saw a lot of animals I had never seen before. I think the same advice may apply to the zoo as applies to the science center, though: arrive around 1 PM, when the bus loads of elementary school kids have headed back to school. We arrived at 11 AM and the place was mobbed. Still, a really wonderful place — And a nice introduction to Griffith Park.

I had a problem with was the first aid. No sense of urgency. Took 20 mins for him to report to the first aid station and the park wasn't even opened two hours. My wife had sprayed some sunscreen in her eyes and was in pain. instead of having anything such as disposable eye drops, she was given a used bottle of visine from his fanny pack and told to spray her eyes. She was blinded and dropped it. The first aid person was annoyed and said it was still clean and to use it anyways. We were so pissed we vowed never to step foot in this park again. My wife left in tears in physical discomfort. Yes we did walk around the park. The animals overall were not engaging and suffocating for such a large location. This was not world class. The Oakland and SF zoos are so much more welcoming and less confining. When a spider monkey and a bear wave at you or a camel walk next to you. Then that's a sign of a happy zoo. These animals felt like they were in captivity. Your seal show was a bust. The seal refused to come to the trainer and when he did he promptly went back under the water.

Do not buy a membership here! I heard the zoo had opened and so I went to their website to buy a ticket. It was Sunday night and there were tickets Wednesday afternoon and after. I decided to renew our membership and found to my horror that there were NO tickets for zoo members for the period that they were allowing online bookings. The zoo has prioritized non member ahead of members making membership a terrible, useless deal currently.

I tried to purchase tickets for this weekend in which the system showed availability for several time frames however declined after entering saying it exceeded the amount available.. After clearing the search it went back and had the selection prepopulated so I clicked on another time frame, after trying a few time slots one went through.

I didn't catch that even though they pre-populated my ticket selections that it defaulted to the day of purchase and not the date I selected. VERY CONFUSING. I literally called 2 minutes after and the lady was a bit curt and condescending in saying well you had several prompts in saying sales are final which I get but the system is a bit confusing. It's kind of incredible that you would so inflexible in having a family just lose $122 than allowing them to reschedule. I really just wanted to take the kids out.

Super disappointing and a bit disheartening in today's day and age.

It was really sad and depressing to see the Animal Habitats - way too small and confined and not natural. No space, no natural environment for the animals. They all looked depressed and unhealthy. It should be closed and the animals repatriated to better Zoos like Sydney or Calgary... I have only been to a few Zoos and maybe they were top 5 in the world because this was really sad and depressing for the creatures.

The zoo has potential, but also needs help. We (2 adults, 2 teen boys and a 3 year old boy) spent about 4 hours on Sunday(10/9/22). General Admission was a bit over $100. Although I did not actually count, it appeared that upwards of 1/3 of the animal areas were closed or reportedly under renovation. Few, how ever, actually had any indication that any work was in progress. Most of the animals looked like I guess I would if I was in their environment. Sad. Bored. Hopeless. Most were either alone or accompanied by one equally unhappy specimen. Site maps are strategically placed throughout the park. Unfortunately, the maps did not have the "You are here" markers which was clearly recognized by people trying to find out where to go. Careful examination of the maps did appear to have glue residue in spots leading me to think that perhaps "You are here" stickers may have been peeled off.
All of the above, to me, just leads to a need to do some re-imagining to tired ideas. I know that fiscal challenges must be VERY difficult and that management is looking for income sources. BUT the prices for the limited "refreshments" make the prices at the airport seem cheap. I attached a picture of the menu. A pint can of water should not cost $5.49. The soft serve ice cream in a plastic cup was a single golf ball size scoop which was some how scooped to be hollow but appearing to be a soild scoop. Yes, the park need to find ways to get money to support the operation...but not in a way that has its customers leaving feeling they had been cheated. If they feel like that, they will leave reviews like this one.

For the size of the zoo the price is super reasonable. My boyfriend and I came here thinking we could get through the whole park within a few hours and boy were we wrong! We rushed through it and did it in a few hours. If we actually took our time it would have taken pretty much a solid day. Depending on the time of year there may not be all animals to see. The food prices are very expensive so eat before hand and bring food if you can. The parking is free!

on my way to the zoo i got into a very bad car accident. i was planning on going back to the zoo to use my tickets but since my car was totaled and i mentally do not want to drive in that area anytime soon i contacted the zoo & tried to get my money back and was very rudely talked to by several employees stating even though my car is now totaled, with my boyfriend and myself having injuries, i can not get a refund. they rudely told me that it wasn’t “there fault” i got into the crash and that there was “nothing they could do for me” even in my harsh situation. i thought the zoo was a friendly environment but i guess not, never will i be going back to this zoo

I was pleasantly surprised by this zoo as for some reason I had a negative connotation of it. I don’t know where that came from because it was great! Lots of active animals and easy to see. Nice set-ups. My son loved the numerous animal statues. We were all impressed by the reptile house. A few of the areas were closed for Covid reasons but there was still a lot to see and do without us feeling like we missed something. I also never realized how cute a taramunda (spelling?) is. Not sure if that’s spelled right but it was by the badger and the petting zoo area.
We also loved and appreciated that for such a large zoo, the parking was free! Would definitely return on a future trip to southern California.

Great way to spend a few hours! I had several hours free on a Wednesday morning while I was in town for work and decided to visit the Zoo. It was lovely. There was tons of parking and the parking was FREE. I bought my ticket online before I went- that was tricky. It didn't want to let me buy it on my phone or tablet, but it did allow me to purchase the ticket on my laptop.

Once there I was able to access the ticket from email on my phone.

It was easy to get into the zoo, easy to navigate as well. Got a little confused about where to go around the elephants, but overall easy to access. I loved all the animals and even saw some I had never seen before! There was a TON of staff and volunteers around too, so there was always someone to answer a question or tell me a cool fact about an animal.

The only thing I would have changed would be to have more of a selection in the gift shops. Specifically, I needed post cards to send my nieces, but no luck.

This Zoo is really run down and poorly kept. I think the animals were on strike, had moved out or escaped because there are hardly any there to see! We didn’t see the tigers, hippos, gorillas, monkeys, elephants and quite a few other animals because the exhibits were empty. We asked where they were and were told some had been moved and some put Into their inside pens which visitors cannot see! This was at 1pm in the day. Half the enclosures had signs saying that they were closed too. We paid $22 each which was a total rip off for what you actually got to see! In fact $10 would have been too much. I would not recommend to anyone - you will be very disappointed!
