India pacer Mohammed Shami has been missing in action since the ODI World Cup due to an ankle injury last year. On Monday, as Shami shared a video of his progress, fans rooted for him and wished him a speedy recovery.

Wearing a yellow-coloured T-shirt and black shorts, Shami can be seen slowly walking with the help of elbow crutches in the video he shared on Instagram. He wrote, “Every step counts on the road to recovery! Embracing the journey and finding strength in every stride.”

The video garnered over 7 million views on the platform and various reactions from the cricketer’s fans. “Come back GT team shami bhai,” said one. Another fan wrote, “Wishing you a speedy recovery Shami bhai,” said one.

“You stand up and show people your worth, people want to see you in your old style sir,” the third fan wrote. “Shami Bhai we need you! Get well soon. Wishing you a speedy recovery,” another fan wrote.

In March, Mohammed Shami shared an update on his recovery after surgery to fix his injured ankle. Sharing a string of photos on X, he wrote, “Hello everyone! I wanted to provide an update on my recovery progress. It has been 15 days since my surgery, and I recently had my stitches removed. I am thankful for the advancements I have achieved and looking forward to the next stage of my healing journey.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also wished Shami a speedy recovery after he announced his surgery. “Wishing you a speedy recovery and good health. I’m confident you’ll overcome this injury with the courage that is so integral to you,” PM Modi wrote on X.

Ahead of IPL 2024, BCCI officially ruled him out of the league. “The fast bowler successfully underwent surgery on February 26th, 2024, for his right heel problem. He is currently being monitored by the BCCI medical team and is ruled out of the upcoming TATA IPL 2024,” BCCI had said in a release.
