Gujarat Titans Fall Short In IPL 2024: Mohammed Shami Identifies Failure Point

Gujarat Titans' hopes of qualifying for the Indian Premier League play-offs were dashed on Monday as rain washed out their must-win match against Kolkata Knight Riders without a ball being bowled.
This means that GT, last year's runners-up and 2022 champions, are out of the playoff race, having collected 11 points from 13 matches.
Mohammed Shami, who has been a key part of GT's set-up, pointed out the opening woes as one of the main reasons behind the lacklustre season. Gill, who had a breakthrough season last time with more than 800 runs, scored 426 this time.
"Gujarat will be unhappy with this season after bowing out from the IPL 2024 season," said Shami on his YouTube channel.
"If we look at their failure points, the most important among them is the opening partnership that did not work out well. Players who were entrusted with this responsibility did not perform up to the mark," he explained.
Gill’s opening partner, Wriddhiman Saha, had a horrific season, scoring just 136 runs at an average of 15.11 and a strike rate of 118.26 in 9 games. The duo failed to post a single fifty-run stand for the opening wicket.
GT's awful run rate of -1.063 had already put Shubman's men on the cusp of an early exit.
Even before the season began, there were doubts whether the team can replicate their past glory.
Titans' bowling played a significant role in the team's ruthless run in the previous seasons, however, Hardik Pandya's departure and injury to Mohammed Shami have left the team reeling.
Rashid Khan was also making a comeback after an injury so hitting peak form straightaway was always going to be a challenge.
