Stabbing Westward

(CD - Columbia Records / Legacy / Sony Music #88843020722)

Review by Gregory Heaney

A more approachable alternative to the grinding angst of Nine Inch Nails industrial rock, Stabbing Westward are probably best known for their mid-'90s hits "What Do I Have to Do?" and "Shame." For anyone looking to dig a little deeper, Playlist: The Very Best of Stabbing Westward offers up a concise sampling of the band's back catalog, even including tracks like "Dawn" from the Escape from L.A. soundtrack, as well as "Torn Apart," which was featured on the soundtrack to the movie adaptation of Spawn. While the collection offers up a nice assortment of tracks, it's worth noting that this collection is essentially a repackaging of 2003's Essential Stabbing Westward, so unless you're a hardcore Stabbing Westward completist, you'll only need one or the other.
